Do you carry clubs you don't use?

I find that if I am sure of the club (even if I am wrong), I will strike it well, but if I am a little unsure, say between clubs, then it is irrelevant which one I take, as it will be a disaster anyway. This is why I need a caddy.

On the other hand, if I only had the odd irons for instance, the gaps are bigger, and so it is obvious if you can't get there with a 7, then it must be a five. Hence positive club selection.

Regardless of how many clubs you take on the course, I'm kinda getting the feeling that there's alot of you out there who own more than 14 clubs anyway. At what point do you say, well that club is s"&*, lets buy something else, and how long before you decide whether that club is any good? Or is it just that you're not practising enough with it?

Should leave the 3 iron at home, hardly ever use it except on the driving range. Same should go for the driver, as I'm now playing the 'keep it on the fairway' game as a different stratergy! Trouble is bag looks kinda 'ponsy' without a driver in it!!

Is it really about the club you hardly use? For me it’s the gradual increase in distance for each club and yes the 3 iron hardly gets used, but the same goes for the 4 and less so the 5 iron. If I take them out I will put something in there that will do the same distance. If not, I’ll have a distance gap.

For me anyway it’s about being able to know a distance and selecting the right club for that distance. Whether I hit it there is a different matter but I feel comfortable knowing I have a gradual decrease from the driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, 3 iron and so on down.
