Hi All,
I need some help and info please. I have a friend who designs golf courses and currently has plans for ones in Barbados. He's a mature fella and is very (very) out of date with technology, (he keeps calling a text a fax). Anyway, He's going over to the site in a few weeks and he's asked to find out if there are any gadgets available for measuring distances which also show the contours of the land including tress and such things, like you see on google earth when using Golfshot. Remember, he's not going to be stood on a golf course so he can't use Golfshot, he's be stood on the land where the golf course will be built.

Hopefully I've explained this ok. Any info would be appreciated.

Get him to speak to his Councils road dept - they're bound to know all these kind of tools? If he's designed courses in the past will he not have used the gear? Cool job to have though - would love to be paid to design courses. Golden Bear Challenge on the PC is the closest I'll ever get to doing it though :)

to do everything he wants would need the site to be satellite mapped.
a surveyors gps will show elevation as well as position, but surely he should know this if he's already designed courses.

Barbados is mapped to Google earth down to 200ft, and contour mapping down to 1000ft, unless he's unlucky enough that his bit is under one of the clouds.
