Digidentity Smart Card Renewal

I have been getting renewal notice emails from digidentity.eu telling me that my digidentity smart card is due to expire and I should renew it. Problem is…I haven’t a clue why I have it, if indeed I do. Do I need it? If not, then is it worth having in any case? Or is it phishing or a scam?

Any advice on this would be much appreciated.

If you don’t know about, just ignore it. If you find out later that you do need one, then just re apply

The website looks professional. They have an office address and a phone number.

Seems to be that the company (Netherlands based) provide, amongst many other services, a digital identity for individuals to prove they are who they say they are, when authenticating documents and providing digital signatures during business transactions.

I'd say if you didnt know you had one then it is not likely that you need one.
