Destroyed myself at the range

Went to the range on Mon, Tue and Wed to work on a few things. It went very well, so good in fact that I can say that I've never hit the ball so well.... or indeed so hard.

Yesterday I could hardly move, today is even worse. Everything down my left half is hurting like hell, my left wrist is agony! (trip to the doctors again I reckon) my left shoulder, shoulder blade, elbow, and all around my neck is as stiff as a board. Not a happy bunny, and I really can't decide which way to go with this. Don't fancy months without playing but really getting fed up with the wrist pain now :(

Anyway I'm just wondering how many balls you would/could hit at the range before you felt like you'd knackered yourself out?

This may sound silly but it's meant in the right way, have you tried a long hot soak to ease the muscles, or some deep heat?

Don't know. I run out of money or time....

Do they do buckets of 300?

I won't hit more than 90, and then only once a week. More than that, and bits of me start to drop off.

With your history of problems, you should have known better.

Do you know a really good physio?

Hope it all settles down soon.

50 balls, three or four times a week is me max'd out. Or I could handle 100, twice a week

But at the moment with the extra workload, I'm struggling to hit 100 a week in total.

Which isn't enough.

And I need more time for chipping/pitching and putting.

:(

My pro told me never to hit more than 100 balls in a session.

Better to end the session wishing you still had some balls left to hit.

Hope it clears up soon but sometimes rest is the only cure. :(

Both mate... I reckon I'll DISSOLVE before this pain goes away

Yeh, I think I might be doing that in future, problem is everything felt fantastic at the time, in fact I was annoyed to be leaving. I'll definately stick to no more than 100 if I'm hitting them like that.

Hi JustOne do you have inflammation? If so you actually need cold to reduce the swelling and anti inflammatories. Sorry to hear your old injuries have flared up. Hope it's just temporary.

Ouch.

Take it easy.

who needs to hit more than 100 on the range at a time anyway? I get bored if I have any more left in my bucket - never been a great practicer.

Hope it eases soon - nothing much worse than pain like that every time you move.

Surely a practice session, wherever you do it, should be about quality not quantity. Quantity can lead to problems if the body isn't ready for it.

I had a session at the range today, it was all about finding my rhythm. I ended up hitting 2 baskets of balls in about an hour and a half, but it was mostly wedge shots to flags on the nearest target green. Once the rhythm had been established a few shots with the 3,5 & 7 irons, half shots then full shots.

I came away feeling I had achieved what I had set out to do, and as I've not been playing much recently, I've not overdone things which could end up causing me problems. Remember, it's winter, the body needs to be warmed up and stretched more than ever at this time of year before playing or practicing.

Take care and don't try too much the next time your out.

I've often wondered this. Once or twice, I've hit 200 hundred the day before an important match. It get's a bit dull but i.i.r.c. I've made some great scores the next day.

I have tended to hit two buckets (about 160) balls before but find that by the time I'm halfway through the second I'm tired and my timing goes and I end up hitting worse. Now I will only hit one large bucket but they can take 90 minutes or so with lots of rehersal to get the feeling of how the swing should be

Mmmm, I can hit 150 and still want more. Play nearly every night in the summer after work and most Saturdays and Sundays. I sometimes get up and hit a bag before going to work then back to the course at night. Unless you’re much older than my 57 years you shouldn’t feel that bad…..just my opinion.

In saying that, if you’ve not swung a club for a while then you’ve not allowed your body enough to recover after each session especially if you hit more than 100. If you’d say done Monday Wednesday and Friday, you might have been much better.

Sore wrists, that doesn’t sound good. Are you using stiff shafts and shouldn’t be? Are you miss hitting the odd shot and getting a dingler up the shaft? Maybe graphite shafts will help…my pro used them when he was having joint problems.
