For my use I would 100% agree. Gaming needs low lag and wireless just doesn’t cut it.

What is the purpose of the connection? A switch seems like a whole lot of hardware for one connection. Unless your connecting up lots of things?

If your just using the PC for activities that don’t require low latency and only have one connection to make them go wireless.

If you have more than one thing to connect OR need low latency then get a switch.

I say this as switches are usually not small and need their own power source.

Wireless adapters are tiny and get power over USB or added to a pcie slot.
 
£10-12 will get you a little 4/5 port gigabit switch. Plenty for your needs especially if it’s only a couple of feet from router. No need to complicate things with wireless additions

£8 can get you a tiny wireless adapter. like this

Yes you need to install drivers so it does add a complication over a switch.

My heart tells you switch but my head says wireless
 
Cabled is always faster, i've had to put an 8 port gigabit switch downstairs for all the tech (hive, hue, harmony, tv, tivo, etc), a Gigabit TPLink Powerline adaptor which then goes to the study for another gigabit switch to feed games consoles, pc's, etc.

in your scenario, a gigabit switch is the best option with a 0.5m RJ45 cable, 1m if you want some extra length..

I’ve had such poor experience with power lines and latency. Wireless can be better at times for speed vs powerlines and equal latency issue.. Tbh I’ve only bought cheap ones so I bet a top model would be better.

Gigabit powerlines, would love to see the ping and speed on those vs wired vs wireless.
