Slow PC

It's so slow I am loathe to install anything else on it.

Found this Lenovo PC Intel Pentium CPU J2900 @ 2.41 GHZ 64 bit operating system x64-based processor 4 GB (3.89 GBusable). Could even be Windows 8 I think updated to Windows 10. Could that be right?
Honestly with those specs you would be just wasting money trying to speed it up. As others have said, some second hand memory and a cheap SSD would be the only options but it's probably not worth it. If you aren't confident building something yourself even a cheap £300 laptop would be much better than what you have just now if all you use it for is internet and excel.

Why? Windows 10 is fine regardless of whether its still able to be upgraded or not.The PC in question is only used for browsing, banking and shopping. A decent anti virus software will provide more protection than MS could offer.
Need to be careful with this as virus and malware aren’t the only vulnerabilities that cause issues.

Windows updates rarely improve virus or m/ware definitions but do improve OS vulnerabilities that sit outside of common threats, which is why Defender is a separate component.

By all means have good AV installed, but it won’t stop OS backdoor intrusion.

I think the days of Diamond CS software protecting ones PC's are in the past. They had some cracking programs, with minimal or no system bottlenecks.:)
