Last week I noticed my 6 iron head was slightly mis-aligned from my shaft, at the ferrule.

I went to AG who put me in contact with a local pro who will re-shaft it for me. The guys at AG also said, before spending the £30 to get it re-shafted, that it might be worth trying to re-align it myself... if I'm going to buy a new shaft anyway, may as well try and sort it out first.

I tried to fix it today, and whilst the head is now aligned correctly, the shaft at the ferrule is now dented where I used the vice:

Is this going to affect the shaft at all?

Next ball you hit, the head may well fly as far as the ball. Don't use it, the shaft will break at the pinch point.

changing a shaft is pretty easy to DIY but you need to buy or acquire one first of course. Agree dont play with it as is, has lost all structural integrity now and will buckle at impact.

My fears exactly. Except my fear is it will be at the range where I cannot retrieve the head easily!

Even harder to recover from the middle of a lake - but the potential for injury is the real reason not to use a club where the structural integrity has been reduced in this way.

Sounds like you should be able to get it sorted
