Was up the range earlier & i dented my driver. The mat was to far over & I hit side on follow through, anyway the sound has totally changed, will this affect it's performance ?.

it makes it illegal for competitions for some stupid reason. i take it you didnt see the thread last week when this happened to someone else? it nearly started a riot!

Looks that way :(. Was in market for a new 1. Where are best places for fitting?. American Golf near me have just had a state of the art fitting bay installed.

OK I'll bite then.

You make a very clear statement here Garry - would you like to provide the basis for such a definitive ruling in Mick's case........

It would be illegal to use again if damaged during a round in a fit pique.
As far as I know, you can turn up with the most dog-eared looking kit going and play as long as it conforms.

not necessarily.......the rules are entirely consistent and far from silly in this area (that's for Garry of course...)

basically if you damage it in the normal course of play you can, in addition to other options, continue to play that round with it even if the damage changes it's playing characteristics or renders it non conforming - you didn't decide to implements the changes after all.

if the damage is outwith normal play then you did implement the changes; therefore you are not permitted to continue with the club if it is rendered non conforming or the playing characteristics are altered - but if they aren't it's OK

prior to the start of the round it's only the issue of conformity because you are permitted to change playing characteristics between rounds.

What was it? Time for a new driver with a full head and shaft fitting me thinks! Its the only way to feel better IMO

Cant go wrong with a ping G20 with a custom fitted shaft, not a fan of the stock ones (or most stock driver shafts actually).

So much for the 'full head and shaft fitting'!

Not a bad choice, but probably best to try a few more - and the G15 ain't to shabby (and a good price too). It only took 1 swing of mine (with the Ping Upgrade Serrano) for it to go in the bag - ahead of several 'exotic' mixes.
