Dehydration- The back nine killer

Another musing on the subject.

When at work or at home apart from being asleep how often do you go without having a drink of any kind, not 4 hours i'd warrant, know I don't.

So why go four hours without one just because you're on the golf course? Now not suggesting you lug round your own kettle and coffee makers for quick flat white or latte after 9 holes but if you fancy a wee sip of water etc etc why not?

You beat me to it. I don't go four hours in my normal day without a drink or something to eat so why would I just because I'm on the golf course.

Fatigue for me is as a newbie to golf I'm still not consistent so have days where I take loads more shots than others plus I've only played the full 18 four times now so need to build that up as well. So far seem to be able to do 13 before I start to flag so we've done that a few times. Also think my age is a factor plus the fact that prior to starting golf I've done sod all excercise for years.

Where's the common sense on this thread? On a hot day, on a hilly course, you're carrying and you haven't had any drink or something to scoff, then it's obvious you'll be more tired and weary compared to if you had eaten regularly. I know I'll play better if I'm feeling strong, rather than trying to carry 230yards on the 18th whilst crawling on my hands and knees, crying, "water! Water!" ;)

You will probably find that a someone's nutrition on the course will probably reflect there normal life nutrition... Most of the time you will be able to tell how much healthy nutrition means to them by looking at them :mmm:

So are you saying that the overweight guys on the course are over eating unhealthily during the round because they eat unhealthy normally? Are the skinny racing snakes not eating anything during the round? I'm confused, mainly because you are talking cobblers ;)

4 litres of water for a round of gowf!

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

I struggle to drink 500ml in a round! While I don't disagree with the original post I find some of these crazy replies laughable.

I can't think of anytime in the UK where I've needed to drink anything more than 1 ltr of fluid over the course of a round.

Any more than that and I'd get done for slow play with the amount of "tree stops" I'd have to make

I usually have 2 500ml drinks in the bag and drink the first one and about half the second one. I usually have a swig every couple of holes but nothing regimented. I have a choclate bar usually as well.

Anyway now weve sorted out the back 9 killer can somebody tell me what the front 9 killer is because im equally adept at butchering them both

A Haggis supper will sort out the front 9!

My normal pace/time for a round of golf is between 2.5 to 3 hours.
If it was taking over 5 hours to play I would probably want to take my lunch with me.

Snelly is nearly spot on with his rant. I think you do need some water on a warm day, and drink before you feel thirsty.
As for the rest it is just general rubbish made up by guys trying to sell a product [sports drinks] or trying to make a living by lecturing to the soft headed.

I've just had a look at my stats for the back nine in the last two years. We must be playing the course back to front. I'm averaging 4 over for the front nine and 1 over for the back nine. I think the fluid I take on before the round is affecting my focus...;) but I'm sobering up on the back nine.
