Well after weeks of not knowing if my driver was going straight, straight right of way off left! I took the plunge and went for a fitting at my local range.

Armed with Flightscope technology, every driver and shaft in their shop and a very patient Pro I've found 2 clubs which seem perfect for me and neither is one I went there thinking would be on my list!

I won't bore you with numbers or the details of spin ratios etc...

But I tried everything from the Nike Covert to Titleist 913 D3 & D2, tried Taylormades R1 & RBZ Stage 2IER! tried the new Razor Extreme as well as the driver I really wanted to be one for me in the Cobra AMP Cell. But it was none of these that came out on tops for me.

The 2 drivers that came out on top were both with a stiff shaft and they Were the Callaway XHot and the Wilson D100, my shot dispertion on both was superbly tight compared to all the others I tried which is what I wanted when I went down there to find something thats going to keep me in play and out of the woods where i'm playing most of my golf from at the moment.

The little added bonus was a bit more distance, now i've always preached I prefer accuracy over length but if I can add that in with a tighter shot dispertion then why not aye!

The dilemma begins with:
a) not expecting or really wanting it to be either of these 2 as my final choices
b) the difference between the 2 length and accuracy wise can't be split so its going to come down to price and which looks better & which I want to have seen in my bag
c) the range not wanting to take my G20 in part ex as they already have others to shift in the same specs, so I need to sell it on but don't know what to sell it for now the G25 is about

They are retailing the Callaway at £229 but the D100 at a superb £179 so quite a difference and I can't work out which I prefer the look of so am deliberating which to order as neither is in stock with the shaft flex I wanted.

So what would my fellow forumers do about options b & c, as I know I will be buying one but with a new nipper on the way I cannot afford to have a club i'll not use again gathering dust in the spare room.

Help!

If money comes higher on the list than looks then the Wilson if you prefer the Cally and you've got the money then the cally. Simples.

Is the difference so much better than the club you are using at the moment?
Given the options that you have set i would rather have a club that i was confident hitting than worry about what others thought when the looked inside my bag, the difference is when i play better than them, as for the cost, thats a personal matter, pay for what you can afford, unless its your profession and you want the best, sometimes we have to compromise, i would never let my family go without just so that i could service my hobby.
As for your old club get it on ebay and price it correctly, you will at least get some of your money back to offset the cost of the new driver.

I recently bought a new driver(taylormade burner 2 series, 9.5 degree loft, stiff shaft) i got this to complete the set as i had bought the rest of my clubs just before christmas, i am now regretting it as i have always played with a 10.5 degree driver, i still hit it great but i dont like the low trajectory, my bag looks great, everything matches but i dont use my driver unless its a windy day. so buy whats right for your budget and what you feel comfortable hitting.

Did you try a variety of shafts in the replaceable ones?

And I always say that if a particular driver performs best for you, it's THAT one that you should have, not another one of the (supposed) same spec!

And eBay, or here, is the place to sell the G20.

In a very similar position myself, hit lots of drivers this weekend and the XHot was the stand out performer. It looks great at address plus love the feel off the face my ball flight was a little high so going back to try 9.5 deg out prior to purchase.

There seem to have been quite a few of us who have hit the XHot and really liked it. I really want to have a direct shoot out between it and the G25 and see what wins...

I'm seeing a lot of new X Hot's in bags right now, and people are hitting them very very well. The fairway woods and hybrids are also stunning in both looks and performance. Lots of smiling faces with these.

It wasn't on my radar at all but the pro included it in the bunch I tried for size. Not mad keen on the looks I have to say but I absolutely nutted pretty much every ball I hit and it felt very responsive and kind of like I knew where it was throughout my swing...hope to have another bash on Wednesday.
