De-greened a putt today

An old guy told me about a time during the summer of 1976 when the grass was so scorched that a chap he was playing with hit a putt that not only left the green, but just kept rolling and ended up out of bounds!

I’ve seen that done before at Abama in Tenerife.

De-green. Is that a word?

Is it meant to mean you putted off the green?

Whatever next, gaming a driver? 🤣
I suspect mimicking our US commentary friends has 'gotten' more popular. I imagine it was a 'clutch' putt, and contributed to the 'winningest' day.
😉🙂

To the OP - I'm going with some above, thinking a 1 putt for stats.
Well done for not seeing red after putting off the green. Would have been amusing in match play!

On the PGA Tour, any stroke(s) after the first stroke from the putting green are counted as putts. There is no official definition, but several variations on how to count putts.

What if the shot after the putt is a chip from off the green?
Do they still count that as a putt?

Question:
Tom Kim just chipped whilst on the 2nd green at Pebble Beach.
When the chip finished stiff, Laura Davies said "that'll be a one-putt".

Is that right?

The whole hole in context:

Par 5, teed off right hand side.
second shot into hazard red stakes on the left,
found my ball hit a pitching wedge on to the green
de-greened my putt, just off the edge,
putted it in from there for par.

no pictures on scorecards😀

If you're recording stats then surely it's only for your own benefit and you can call it whatever you like?? Sometimes if my first putt is from the fringe but not that far from the flag and I putt badly, I still count it as a three-putt because I want to remember that I putted badly on that hole. Even though a putt from the fringe technically isn't a putt. So similarly if my first putt went off the green and then I putted from there I would still count that as a putt. If I chipped the next one though I probably wouldn't count that as a putt since it literally wasn't a putt.

But ultimately, it's up to you isn't it? Think about why you are recording your stats and whether calling it a one-putt is just to mask a deficiency and stat-padding.
