My wife is great a hanging wallpaper and painting...usually insisits on DIY!

Need our banisters/stairs painted and says I should do it... to be honest I'd rather pay someone while I sit in the home office working and earning, leaving the weekend (when I'd be doing it) to play golf! And to be honest, some local bloke might need the work!

What would a job like that cost do you think?

We paid ours (before found my tamed builder) £150 a day plus materials .. he did our hallway in 3 days

That sounds a lot to me Bob. I had a plasterer do my lounge ceiling last year, £100 cash Inc materials and it took him most of the day.

send me his details will you!!!!!!

where we are you'll do well to find any trade for less than £150 a day and some want £250 a day (sparkys and plumbers mainly!), as has been said id get quotes for the job not a day rate if you can

Wouldn’t pay day rate. Pay per job.

Agree and the above amounts sound high to me. I take quotes for jobs and the last one was 4 rooms (hall/stairs/landing - roof and walls only, living room including woodwork, bedroom roof and walls only and utility room roof and walls only.) took 5 days and paid £500 labour - worked out £100 a day plus materials

I did say it was a guess...... based on a window fitter who charged me £150 for a days work and that was 5 years ago in Lincolnshire

We're just having our hall, stairs, landing, bathroom, downstairs loo painted plus staircase/bannister from dark stain to white gloss. 5 days work at £950 inc paint etc. Quoted for the job so he hopes he might finish Thursday.

Guy who lives 2 doors up from us charges £120 a day not including materials. This is upt north so I'm guessing it will be double that the further south you go.

Why do kids want to waste 3 years, and 30k on going to University to get a 14k a year job in a shoe shop, if you can earn 50k a year painting walls?

A trade is more useful than a degree in the main for sure

Apprenticeships are the future it how I started and now earn what both my parents earn combined. Learn so much by doing
