Spent all my Sunday hanging wallpaper, Saturday was painting. I will admit am crap at painting, but hey ho they teach kids at nursery how to paint so it cannot be that hard so I prefer to leave that to Missis T. Anyway back to my wallpapering. It looks the ants pant. There has not been a finer plumb line on a wall in the whole of North Notts today. I could of been a painter and decorator. Even managed to get me pencil behind me ear like the pros do.
But there's no chance I would of taken it up as a career. To many tea breaks for a start, God knows how many biccies ave had. Me knee went about 1.00 pm and me right ankle about five. Up down up down up down. That was before I got to the soddin stairs. Am sure gravity got heavier as the day went on. Well now am finished. Apart from cleaning the tools, putting them away, refitting radiator, refitting sockets, replacing carpets, fitting new door handles and light fittings.
I am knackered.

I know your pain Tashy. I've redecorated the whole downstairs of my place as well as the hall and landing since my kitchen refurb was finished in April. No wallpaper, everything painted and im knackered. The hallway and upstairs landing had 9 doors to rub down and paint.

Anyway, I'm doing no more until the new year when I need to do the bedrooms, bathrooms etc

Painting my house and external boundary walls.
I got my local guy to do the but ends ( to high for me now)
Taking my time and I find it very relaxing and fulfilling.
Trouble is that it is six years since I did it and I can't remember if painting up or down is the best technique.
Where is Science Boy.

when we had the hall way down we got a man in.. (awkward stair way.. no chance of either of us getting up there) he charged £150 a day but had the whole thing stripped of wallpaper, re papered and painted within like 3 days or something.. bargain

when we had the nursery built I had made friends with a builder.. (boss at work who owns a building company) he know helps me do any work I need in the house thats more than DIY.. he built a false wall in the nursery (to make the room level as it had a water pipe on the wall sorta thing) anyways completely easy now.. painted and decorated very cheap indeed

only charged about £200 in labour for 5 days it took him then rest was parts

the labour was mainly for his laky mate... his share was almost nothing

Hanging wall paper is an art. I always get my mate in who is a Painter & Decorator to do the wall papering.

DIY wall papering stands out like a sore thumb.

When I was papering yesterday, I had mentioned the day before about playing some of me old vinyls whilst papering. First one on " The last dance" full of Motown classics, next up best of 1985 on a Telstar classic. Complete with scratches. I mentioned to Missis T that my first wall papering lesson by me mum was back in 85. It was a good paper. Next paper I hung was wood chip. I can remember picking one piece up and had just the corners in my hands. The rest was in a heap on the floor. It was crap stuff. It cost more for toilet paper than it did for a roll of wood chip.
