Would have posted my review sooner but thought I would try and fix my slice on the range at bowood!

My day started with an early train to Virginia Water and meeting mike for the day ahead! Was good seeing Sunningdale course on the way on the train. Even though it was frozen solid was good to see their hardy members still going for it!

We arrived at wentworth which I havent actually been to before and the facilities there look really good. And we made or way to the Taylor made where I was met by the vision in lime that was Phil!!! Brendy ad the GM and TM guys who were all a friendly bunch. We went through a good presentation on the new designs and specs of the R11S and the RBZ driver. With the RBZ presentation it seemed to be justification for the slightly risky name! And IMO it definitely lives up to it.

First opinions on the gear was that there had been a lot of time go into it. Both RBZ and R11S looked really good at address in both Fairway and Driver. With the main difference being the adjustability options offered by the R11 were more varied.

Brendy was up first, who hit a few irons to warm up and got to work on the Drivers. You could definately tell the R11S was for him much to his shock. He hit a few with a standard setup and tweaked toward what they thought was a better set up and this seemed to spark some good results.
Similar sort of thing with the 3 wood. THe RBZ seemed to not be the best fit for brendy and again few tweaks with the R11S 3 wood and he was away. Brendy was done.

I then got to step up and boldly didnt warm up and got on with it. Grabbing the RBZ 3 wood and topping it no further than 30 yards (thats rocketballz!) About 10 swings later i started gettign to grips with the RBZ 3 Wood. Losing a lot of shots to the right yesterday due to a few minor swing faults. But was honing it in towards the end. I was happy to find that the RBZ and I were generationg ball speeds of around 172 mph! Which I wasnt upset with. THe R11s was about 10mph off this and was hittign it around the 250-260 mark.

I was fitted for a 15 degree stiff slightly heavier shaft with RBZ tour head. However after some consideration I think the R11 may have been a better fit purely because I didnt see the point in hitting a 3 wood as far as my driver ! Which at points is what was happening. And also the extra adjustibility was what I would prefer.

Driver fitting was pointing at the R11s straight away due to adjustability settings was achieving some good stats on the monitor. And was fitted with a 9 degree R11S stiff shaft with 70 gram (ish) shaft. With a few tweaks in face angle.

Phil then stepped up and was fitted with the R11S Driver and RBZ 3 wood. Which seemed to suit him well. And was hitting some excellent shots with both. And definately gaining distance with each shot.

Once our interviews and Photshoot (was upset I didnt have my own dressing room) were over. We then got to try some clubs from the GM cupboard! An excellenT opportunity to try some stuff I would never normally try. And a definate buy is going to be the new cleveland wedges ! AMAZING. Was great having some closest to the pin on wentworth driving range!

One of the highlights of the day was getting lost in the clubhouse whilst trying to find the toilets and walking into someones office whilst they were in a conference call ! OH DEAR !

Just wanted to say a quick thanks to GM and TM for the great day and thanks to Brendy and Phil for the awesome company!

I definitely think we all had fun. I won't forget Sam walking onto the Mary and going straight for the wood (I requested a warm up with an iron first :)) the first few hits from Sam were wayward and by the end were going well. We really have to find out who lived in that house to the right of the range haha they got peppered, some of the figure were really quite healthy though I didn't know the track man could see round corners :D
A day I won't forget easily and can't wait to get my hands on the clubs.

Sounds like a champion day was had by all. GM really do us proud with their dedication and generousity towards the forum.

Cyber pints all round.

Crikey thats some ballspeed with a 3 wood. Thats got to be mid 120's swing speed with a 3 wood :O

Looks like you all enjoyed the day. looking forward to the article in the mag now.

great tp hear you all were looked after and had a fab day .......just makes me even more jealous!!!!!!

glad it all went well and hope the new white toys give you much happiness

was the rbz 3 wood as long as some othe drives? and what was the rbz driver like for distance

The RBZ is long there is no doubt about it ! I was hitting it 270 full shot which was as far as some drives! However my concern with that is what would be the point in having a driver ! So I opted for an r11s after some consideration ! as the gap between my hybrid and 3 wood would be far too big and off the deck looked a lot easier with the r11imo

Nice report on a great day.

I enjoyed the session on the range with the other clubs - good fun trying everything new on the market out.

The guys at GM really have given out some great testing opportunites as prizes this year - great to be offered the chance.

Yes I can confirm that for Sam (weekend warrior) some of his RBZ 3 wood hits were going similar distances to the lower end of his drives - the bigger hit drives were still outgunning it but it was fairly close.

Mind you with that swing speed he nearly hit himself in the back of the head with the club it whipped round so fast. Awesome to see it in action :)

Great write up and sounds like there was some big hitting going on. Is the RBZ lighter than the R11 or are they a similar weight with the stock shafts in them

Both were similar to be honest but all of the woods have different weighted shafts. The r11s stock is an aldila rip I think and the RBz is an Xcon 5 tell me if Im wrong Brendy!

We did a bit of unsophisticated waggling of the drivers when they first handed them to us in stock form. The R11S definitely felt heavier - both shaft and head. To be honest I cannot remember between the R11S 3 wood and the RBZ 3 wood as the design was so quirky we were all stood gaping at that :)

Its one of those clubs you think 'there is no way I would buy that with that name and the groove behind the face' then when you hit it you immediately change your mind. It is awesome!!

Phil I in the end decided against the RBZ 3 wood! And went for the R11s as felt it would be easier to hit off the deck and also the added adjustability is something that I love. And the main factor was the fact it was too long(sounds stupid) but I might as well not have a driver with the rocketballz ! Which I think will put a few people off! Good for someone who wants the extra distance to fill the gap though!

So, this means I will be the very first amateur in the country to have one :) :) :)

I can understand your decision Sam - the way you hit it was fantastic but it was nearly the same as the Driver. Better to fill the gap and you definitely hit the R11S better off the deck

For me it allowed me to get the same carry , total distance with the high launch that I currently get with a perfect hit with the 13 degree so it is the right one to fill the Driver / Hybrid gap for my bag. Up to now I have stayed away from hitting my 3 wood into greens as its usually arriving a such a shallow angle that it goes straight through. I think this one will give me the option to try this.
