Hello everybody!!

I have just recently bought a dart board and i'm practicing an hour or so most nights.. to be honest i'm pretty crap atm. my best check out is 26 darts(maybe i shouldnt admit that)!

Just wondered if anyone else plays and what sort of practice routines do u use and what dart weight...and basically do you have any tips??

:D

It's a long time since I played darts, tbh I can't quite believe how long!

For a while I used to run the PO's mess darts team at Culdrose and again at Portland but I never used to practice as such, just used to play games. I think the real interest was the beer in the different pubs - we were always sabotaged at the Blue Anchor in Helston when they brought out the Spingo (we used to use pussers rum on them).

The only darts I could never use were the wooden ones with the lead strapped round them - only found in shyster bars and fairgrounds.

I play darts at pub level not too much at the moment but do get a game in

The best form of practise is round the board simple and fun, maybe go round in doubles trebles

I use 24g darts and as for tips just keep throwing maybe keep all your body still and let your arm do the work

Oh i use a darts scoring program called dart pro its full of games to play and keeps your progress you can even play against yourself with your old scores i dont have a link but a general search for dart pro scoring you will find the free download

I play every day, some of my friends wondered why I havent had a go in a serious way as I am pretty dam good when Im in the groove. My problem is in my body, which is a little bit buggered. There have been times when I cant get anything lower than a ton then times when 60 is a relief.lol
I worked out my average score with three darts last week and it was 96......this week I have funny hands and it was 62.(average was over 3 days play)

26 darts shot out isnt bad darts at all, keep at it often enough and you will see it drop. If I could hold onto the consistancy that pros have I would go for it, but I cant, so there you go.

If you can get down to regular 18 to 20 dart finishes and sustain that level, you are good enough to beat most pub team players and be competitive at higher levels.

As for practice other than normal 501 play, I play round the board in a special way.

If you get shanghi on any number its double score.
You have to score at least 150 by number 10inc.
300 by 15 and 700 by 20.You have 3 darts at 25 and 6 at bull.
Miss any number and you are out.
Fail to get the set scores round the board and you are out.

My best score so far is 1,354. I often manage 950 to just over 1000. Its not as easy as you may think.

If you break 1000 you then earn the right to try it backwards.

Another thing I do is work on finishes that involve using multiple doubles...eg if you have 54 to get, shoot double 11 double 16. you get the idea Im sure .

I use to play regularly for the local pub and be down there most night practicing. Unfortunately after my illness forced me to stop drinking I tried to soldier on on soft drinks but to be honest it was never the same and I have let it slip.

I still have my board and stand behind the sofa so may take it out and try again. I've done a 9 dart 301 and a 15 dart 501 with a best checkout of 155 (60, triple 15, bull). I even had my own shirt with a picture of Homer and my name on it and a Unicorn one with Homer, my proper name and the pub name

Its strange that but I know a few darts players who went to pieces when they stopped drinking homer.

oops went to pieces is a little strong, I mean lost a certain level of their skill.

I play infrequently with some mates. This usually involves lots of games of Killer coupled with beers, a curry and lots and lots of loud AC/DC.

Homer: 9 dart 301, 15 dart 501, 155 check-out, your own monogrammed shirt: WOW !

Got my best check out to 24 ! only 2 better but its better. i think i average 30-36 daarts which needs to improve!

I still havent hit a 180 although more trebles are coming!

dont know whether to change darts! i got 28g harrows gyro but i dont use the gryo stem i use a medium nylon!

fancy maybe getting a longer thinner bareel like 501s darts they look pretty good! they are opposite to mine! Although they only do a 26g whereas i think i like to keep mine heavy!

i think i should be better then i am but there you go!
