Sunderland have confirmed today that he handed in a transfer request after the derby on sunday and rumour is villa have put a 18 million bid in for him! I really can't understand why the hell (if it is true) would he want to leave sunderland and go to villa apart from they must be offering him stupid wages but i can't really see that as villa aint really known as paying massive wages.

I'm not a sunderland fan but surely sunderland must be a safer bet than going to villa who have struggled nearly all season and will be lucky to finish mid table.

Or it may be that he doesn't like living in the north east as i know in the past it's been rumoured some players from down south have turned down the likes of sunderland and newcastle as the don't want to live in the north east.

It seems like villa could be raising the cash for bent by selling downing to liverpool aswell.

The Sunderland message board is hard to get on to at the moment due to the, I guess, weight of traffic after this news.

Strange request, but if we could get Wellbeck for some of that fee I'd be fairly happy.

Transfer fees in England are a joke. Bent is a mediocre pro who has earned huge sums of money without achieving much.

Was watching SSN and they said (cant remeber since when) the only Drogba and Rooney had scored more goals (one), hardly mediocre IMO. Plenty of teams could do with a goalscorer like that! Although that said transfer fees are stupid!

Well, the consensus (I don't get to games now living in the SW with two kids so can only go on whats mates tell me) seems to be that in the last few games he seems disinterested.

Not sure what's going on with him but if he wants to leave, let him. I'll take £18m and if we could get Wellbeck for £12m it would be a great deal, in my book.

I think Houllier took it the wrong way when fans were telling him to get bent!

Fair enough, hand in a transfer request, but Villa? As Redwood says let him go and try secure Wellbeck. Will Fergie let him go permanently though, Man U could well be needing him next season?

I know since he moved up here he has abit of trouble with supposed newcastle and sunderland fans.

Didn't an alleged sunderland fan racially abuse his mum at a game last season and i'm sure he had a moan on his twitter once or twice about some newcastle fans attacking his car when he was in newcastle shopping or something.

Didn't you hear the geordies singing.....

I wanna go home, I wanna go hooooooooome, sunderland's a sh**hole, I wanna go home

Enough said

OR

"Am 5under1and till half time....am 5under1and till half time.."

with reference to them leaving in their hundreds at St James with 25 mins left....and loads leaving yesterday in the last 10 mins :D :D :D

I watched Bent week in week out when he was with Ipswich. Never rated the bloke and could'nt understand how he wangled a big money move. Needed so many chances before he put one away , it was embarrassing. From what I see of him on tv, he has'nt improved much.

I believe that this is his reasoning for leaving.

£18,000,000?? If that's the case, I'm probably worth a couple of mil!!

Had a decent start to the season but hasn't kicked on since. Not really worth the money but with agents involved even mediocrity goes for world class prices. Adebayour is no different and Crouch is another that fits the bill. Big prices for average players

To be totally fair the prices arent too bad for under 16's. Me and my mates are going to watch wolves vs Man United on feb 5th for a tenner.
