I picked up an offer of twilight golf at Dale Hill East Sussex today. After 1pm £30 each including buggy to play the Woosnam course. No one else out there and the course was much better than when I last played it a 4 years ago. Good company on a not bad track and it holds good memories as that game 4 years ago I actually tied up the purchase of my house while playing the course

Not a bad course at all the Woosnam course. Some tough holes around the turn, especially the par 5 11th that doglegs right out of the trees. Just a shame you have to use buggies.
I dislike the Old course though. Wasn't a good course to begin with, but made even worse when they put that bloody boring par 3 in to accommodate the Woosnam.
Not on my "must play" list

I have never played the old course and didnt think too much of the Woosnam before either. I think it's now matured and looked really good yesterday. I, like you, am not a buggy fan but it's a heck of a walk without one! The 11th is a good hole and I was on in 3 but reading putts, especially the pace was a nightmare - it felt like they were all running 15 on the stimpmeter!I did well on the par 3's though as the bandit I went with insisted I gave him 9 shots off his 24 h/cap and he really can play to 16 - he beat me by one hole!

Still, £30 inc buggy is not bad for what was millionairs golf

I think the Woosnam is a great course, probably one of the nicest I've played this year as there isn't really a weak hole on the course (17th(?) is a bitt naff looking but the approach shot is tricky and would be great if they dug out the stream a bit more to give it a 'Wentworth' look).

Having to take a buggy spoiled it as I loathe having to take wedge and putter out of my bag at the same time.

I totally agree with you.

The 17th was my only problem hole in that I knew it wasnt a driver from the tee, I hit an 18 degree rescue club and went left/centre of fairway, great strike and never found my ball. Your right though, I dont think that there is a weak hole out there but some holes I would approach differently if I played there again. The 3rd for example isn't, for me, a driver and I got into the trees yesterday with one and a 4 iron would have been ample. The 17th would be magnificent with the "Wentworth" touch

The only downside - 2 coffee's £4.50!

Playing there tomorrow and Saturday on our Captain's weekend away day.

Looking forward to it, as I've only played it the once (Woosnam)... about 10 years ago! Never played the Old course, but not looking forward to is as much now I've seen Rob's comment.

Mind you, when has anyone listened to Smiffy? ;)

I played there about six years ago and was impressed with the Woosenam. Not too keen on buggys but it did speed things up between holes.

The greens were excellent from memory and there were some lovely looking holes, especially the 3rd and the one on the back nine where you shoot over a large dip (can't remember the number).

Sure you will enjoy Bratty...do you do anything other than go on holiday and play golf mate!!! :D :D :D

I havn't played the members course but my playing partner from yesterday has, and said that its a pretty good course. More trees than on the Woosnam course and he quite enjoyed it. So I am sure that it will be ok for you

Is it the Woosnam or the Old Course with the Par 3 over all of that crap and undergrowth?

Both courses have a par 3 where you have to go over crap. I think it's the 16th on the Woosnam and 13th on the Old.
The thing that mostly spoilt the Old course for me was the condition of it. The greens were always really slow (although it was quite a few years ago that I last played it) and there are a few "up and down" holes that make the front 9 (especially) a bit boring.
There are some reasonable holes on there but it's not a patch on other local courses (Lamberhurst, The Nevill etc) so we would always pick either of those two before venturing over to Dale Hill.
If the course maintenance has improved then you won't be too disappointed Bratty. Just don't expect anything too exciting. As I mentioned earlier, they changed the course a little to accommodate the routing of the Woosman course when it was constructed, doing away with a decent par 4 and putting a crap par 3 in it's place. I think it would be about the 7th or 8th hole. But whichever one it is, it's crap. A nothing hole.
Shame.

I'm quite pleased to say yes and no! Had a ton of holiday left over, so playing Dale Hills tomorrow and Saturday, Woburn next Thursday in their Pairs Open, and then off to Florida for 3 rounds of golf in Bonita Springs!

Helps having a wife who is studying for an MBA, so plenty of time at weekends! ;)

Wow, not a bad schedule!

Let me know how DH plays as may try and get over there before the year is out.

All these government cut backs are a real bitch, so stops people indulging their hobbies!
