Going to be Re-Gripping my i10 irons tomorrow and my G10 driver with the new Ping grips that are already on my G15 3 wood and my i15 hybrid....

Since im also doing my driver im tempted to lop 1.25" off the shaft to make it a bit more controllable...
Its 45.75 standard and this would bring it down to 44.5 which is 1.5" longer than my 3 wood...

Now everything i read says that club golfers are playing with drivers that ae too long for them and that if they were playing with a shorter shaft that they would have more control and and in some cases even better distance results.

Has anyone done this and is it worth doing....

I've done a few, in fact all the ones that came in over 45" got cut down to 45.
Works for me.

I'd do it again on the next driver.

Trouble is, I can't find the right club just yet.

Did you have to do anything with the swing weight Dave?
In fairness Homer does have a point but i wonder would an inch and a quarter of graphite weigh much in the end?

@ Blade Player....I do grip down pal...This is why im thinking of lopping it seeing as im changing the grips.

Nope.

The first one I had done was a Ping G5 from 45.75 to 44.75 (I think he just went for an inch). My pro did it and challenged me to notice a difference. If I did, he offered to replace the club after a month of using it if the results were dodgy.
Oddly, I never took him up on the offer.
The second one, I did. I took Mr Wilson Spine into the garden and taught him a lesson. He went from 46 to 44.75 in 120 seconds. (the grip took a while though :o)

The swing weight will change, I think it was something like the equivalent of D2 to C11 or something. I don't care, both clubs were much easier to "middle" from then on.

I guess if a heavier feel suits you, you might need to think about it properly.
