I am posting to ask for reccomendations on irons because my birthday is coming up and want a new set but I would also like to get them custom fitted.

Any reccomendation or questions are welcomed.

I play off 18 and am currently 15.

My age is the thing I am mainly worried about will I be growing out of the irons soon though or is this just a superstiotion.

I currently have nike sasquash sumo irons steel shafted.

Thanks

Connor

Thats the thing with Custom Fitting Mono, no one can recommend anything to you, you have to go in with an open mind and be fitted for anything within your budget. If you know you only want a certain sey of irons, no point being fully fitted.

If you are going to get new clubs I would reccommend having them custom fitted as most manufacturers do not charge for this service. I would say however that it is better having them fitted at a range rather than somewhere where you hit shots into a net as you will be able to see the shape of the shot.
From my experience as a parent of two sons who are now in their early twenties, I would think at 15 you should stick with the clubs you have as over the next couple of years you will grow like the proverbial beanstalk and need to change them again. Mind you from previous posts it seems you change your equipment more often than I change my socks! ;)

Mono can I suggest you think hard about the reasons for your wanting a new set.

Why I’m saying that is simple, after a while we all tend to look at the shinny new bats, me included. For a while I was questioning my own R7 irons. I wasn’t playing that well, hooking the odd shot, I still do, and as long as that goes on we tend to think it’s the tools that are fault.

What I’m trying to say is, think of the reasons why you got the nike’s in the first place. If you liked them at the beginning and you played reasonably well with them, the chances are your searching for something that’s not there.

Lately I’ve been hitting some great irons and although I still have the odd shocker it’s me that’s at fault and the best irons in the world won’t help. You might be better keeping the cash for a while, until you know for sure that a change will enhance your game rather than spend money with the hope that an improvement will come with the new irons.

Oh, the other day I bumped into the guy I sold my old Muzzies too. I hit a few shots with them and he wondered why I sold them in the first place, I also wondered why.

Look at Ping, they can be altered to a max of 2 degree either way as you grow.

To be honest at 15 you probably have a maximum of 2-3 years growing height wise hopefully you wont outgrow your custom fit irons.

Or as has already been said, just decide what irons you want/like/can afford and go from their. Although I assume that its Bank of Mum and Dad thats paying and budget is down to them!!!!

Whats your reason for changing Mono or is the thought of money burning a hole in your pocket?

Persist with what you have Mono and save money. When your fully grown then get a new set custon fitted.

I bet given time you will hit your own irons sweet off the tee.

You have very high hands at the top of your backswing mono, great to generate power and distance from that position.

Why not compromise and do the online Ping fitting then look out for a second hand set on ebay, that way your getting the best of both worlds.

My advice would be to hold fire and keep what you have. You are doing ok off 15 and with the better weather and maybe a lesson at the start of the season as an MOT on your swing I'm sure you'll get down lower.

Good advice as usual Homer.
Patience Mono.
Listen to the tour players and they all say I have to stay patient and not try to force anything.
Keep putting in the hard work and you will reap the benefits.

Ps I still use the Ping G2 driver!

He plays off 18 and is 15 years old! :D

Its been said, take it easy mono, it is certainly true that at the right time in your golf a custom set is a great idea, but you are obviously playing the game well and it really does pay not to rush things, stick with what youve got for a while, invest in a few lessons with a good pro, I think you will get more value for your pennies that way at least for a while.

There is a danger that because your friend's irons seem better, that you might go for custom fitting for that particular make/model. Very similar to what I did and regretted it. There might well be other makes that suit you even better.
2 ways to prepare for eventual custom fitting:

1. Get in with your local pro who will have many second hand sets. Borrow a couple of irons from 2/3 sets and hit 'enough' balls on the range. Ok they will be older models but will give a good indication.
2. Find a local fitter who fits for a range of makers. I went to TrentLock GC in Notts and had the 6 iron demo clubs for 3 makes (latest models) and hit 50 balls with each.

Mono, I have 2 replies for you
1 is the one you want to hear and the other is my honest opinion.
1. It is important that you get the right kit for you if your serious about your golf and the chances are, you wont grow much more than you are now.
If you do grow, you can always have the shafts extended and lies adjusted to compensate.
With new irons, your confidence will shoot sky high and you'll be off scratch before your parents credit card bill hits the door mat.
2.Judging by your picture you have posted, you need some help with your posture.
Use some of the money on lessons and learn how to hit what you've got now properly.
Take the rest of the money and spend it on your parent's birthday presents and you'll reap the rewards next Christmas :)
