Custom Fit tips and suggestions

give the fitter an idea of budget, go with a fully open mind, try not to pay attention to what clubs/shafts youre hitting just find the best combination for you without any prejudice then buy that exact spec (assuming its not ludicrously expensive)

When I had mine done I just left in the capable hands of the fitter. He didn't tell me what shafts I was hitting when he was changing them over because he said people have preconceived ideas of how a particular shaft will perform. I wish I had tried a few more heads but to be honest the one head I tried won me over.

You will really enjoy the experience, Scott's knowledge is really excellent.
As stated, just go with an open mind, relax, enjoy it.
I tried numerous different club heads in my fitting and came away with KZG irons.
Just to add, definitely no pressure to purchase, or time restraints on the fitting time, unlike some others I've read about on here when fitted at other venues.

My advice and this is having been fit by Scott is this:

try not to follow what shaft is being selected. You'll go through loads. Scott will get it right. Just focus on what looks good or not in terms of club design.
Full bag is tough going. I ran out of steam after the irons. That took around 2hours. So take water and bananas or similar. Treat it like a full round of golf in terms of energy expended.
Relax. Try not to get nervous, play your normal swing and enjoy. Don't try to over hit it.
Don'T be afraid to ask questionS. Scott is really good at explaining things.

Where are you being fitted? Edinburgh or Elm wood. Can't mind from your PM'S sorry! I've only been to Elm wood for fittings.

swing at 80%, so you get a true fit for the majority of shots you will hit in play.

Good shout.

Yeah sounds good advice. Going to Edinburgh. There will be 2 of us going together so hopefully take some pressure off.

Really looking forward to it.

Always warm up with your own clubs first, and if you can't find your normal swing walk away.

I've had several custom fits, and the biggest mistake I made was buying after a session when I just couldn't find my swing all through the session.

Think that is my biggest fear of not having a consistent swing on the day. I am getting a tad excited now

To that end I wouldn't worry from my personal experience with Scott. When it was clear my swing wasn't right with the driver he called the end of fitting.

I did have a 3wood/shaft combo picked and I ordered it there and then.

Turns out when we went through the driver / hybrid fitting we could see the 3wood shaft wasn't ideal. So the 3wood is away getting the same UST Mamiya series shaft as my Driver & Hybrid.

I know he didn't need to do this and an argument that with all i've spent it's the least that should be done. But I never pushed for changes and often pushed to continue.Scott led the way as it's his reputation on the line and he genuinely wants everyone to be happy with what they get.... no matter what your spend is.

Plenty of sound advice being given out. When going for a fitting I have always warmed up like others have said with my own clubs, then I have hit 10 shots on the launch monitor with what to ever I am getting fitted for from my own set. I delete the 2 best and 2 worse shots to get a fair average of my normal shot to use for comparrison.

At the end of the day your going for a fitting to find something that will improve your game, so you need to make sure that what ever you are getting is an improvement.

If if your going with an open mind and wallet, then fair enough. But if not then make it clear to the fitter. If you end up with something like the C-taper shafts in then they can cost you around £20 a club as an upgrade, so a set of £500 irons could go up considerably. Same with a driver, some of those shafts can up the price by over £100.

if your only interested in stock shafts make it clear from the outset, so you do not start playing with exotic shafts that put you out of your budget.

Custom fit. Now there is a debate. Had two sets custom fit and a driver in the past. My current irons are off the shelf and every bit as good.

Not convinced by the dark arts!

Well that was a fun experience.

Don't know how many shots I hit on trackman in total but it was lots! Having had my current irons, MizunoMX15, since 2005 anything was going to be an improvement.

After meeting up with Scott and having a chat I started hitting my own 6 iron to get a base line distance. (Don't ask me to quote any figures as I have a head like a sieve!)
As I said before I was going with the intention of letting Scott recommend heads that may suit me until he finds one that was working, through the trackman figures, and that I liked. So after hitting different heads I stuck with the Srixon z545

http://www.srixon.co.uk/golf-clubs/Z-Series-Z545-Irons/

After further trial and error using different shafts/adding lead tape/stickers to face and sole of club etc he settled on a KBS shaft in regular for me.

My current irons were bought off the shelf with stiff shafts (never knew the difference at the time).

My current driver, 3 wood and rescue are also stiff shaft so when it came to fitting for driver my driver swing was too inconsistent to get accurate figures and recommendations and Scott advised me to get a couple of lessons and come back again for the driver fitting. The problem with my driver swing was that I was compensating for a stiff shaft and adding extra loft to the club so would have been a fruitless fitting to carry on with this swing. I must admit I was pretty tired at this stage too and would advise anyone if fitting the whole bag to try and split the session if possible.

After the fitting I went back to the clubhouse and had a super all day breakfast.:D

Just have to wait now until they are made up and delivered.

Do I recommend custom fitting...100%...I wouldn't have spent 10 years playing stiff shafts when regular was what was needed. A fitting at the time would have spotted that. Now to look for some nice iron headcovers.
