Thats a great review Sammmebee.

I've tried looking at the layout on google earth but can't make out the tee's on some holes. Looks punishing never the less.

Thats the one davie, have seen them pictures but was hoping for a course guide. I'll just buy one on the day.

That first tee looks a tad daunting. Any Sally Gunnels will be no good there.

I think it looks nice. Not sure we will get the views on Wednesday though, pretty much depends on the weather (which at the moment is looking a bit wet).

Still, free golf at a nice track is better than work.

But what about the experiment?

I too think it looks nice Murph and as you say free golf and a day off work.

I've been rattlin my brains about the experiment, cant understand how we wont know what it is till the end.

if you get the course card from here http://www.cbgc.co.uk/coursecard.asp you can track the course on google earth (ge) and on google maps.

there seem to be a few where you have to carry rough to reach the fairway but if you measure it on ge it's do-able.
there looks to be one hole, 12, with a tree and patch of rough in the middle of the fairway, which narrows quite a bit at that point - interesting - but I think more a trap for the long hitters, the rest of us will be praying before the 2nd shot! that patch of rough on 14 could be interesting too.

I had a look at the gradients on google maps as well - they don't look too daunting - gog magog is worse - mind you I now have the powerbug!
Some of the holes lying across the contour could be fun.

The layout of 13 and 14 is a little odd, you have to go round the back of 14th tee to get to the 13th, then cut back up to 14. Definitely an older style course, no easy way back if you only wanted to play 9.

by the way, I've checked three weather forecasts, bbc as usual useless that far ahead as they won't commit (ever since the hurricane); the others seem to agree that there will be some rain but can't agree how much.
still who cares - I don't rust!

Viscount,

You really have looked in to it, hopefully you can talk me through it on the way.

I'm not too bothered about the weather, nothing a shower and change of clothes after wont sort out.

Hopefully the 5 wood will work like it did yesterday.

Are you going over the range at all tonight or tomorrow?

I had planned a brief foray this evening but that may have to be put off, if time permits I may still go.
I've been reading up on the stack & tilt swing but this may not be the time to try it!

Viscount, I've heard some bad things about that stack and tilt swing.

Being a 27 handicap I really dont like giving advice on golf swings but thats something i'd definitely advise you steer clear of.

I'm popping in to American Golf tomorrow just to hit a few balls and buy a dozen more warbirds in case wednesday doesnt go exactly to plan.

Good research Viscount!
On the 12th that patch of rough is about 260 off the tee so you'll be doing well to reach it this time of year unless there's a strong tailwind.
There are times when the cross-heather on the par 5 14th will definitely come into play on the second shot - if it's into the wind, or you don't quite get your tee shot or you're not that long off the tee - but reasonable hitters on calm days will clear it with two good blows and often be able to get up in two (it's the easiest of the par 5s)
Toughest holes are probably the 2nd, definitely the 18th and maybe the 6th which is a longish par 3 played across a gully - bail out too far right and your up and down chances are relatively low.
Anyway, hopefully you'll all be able to make your own assessments after Wednesday. Let's pray for semi-decent weather...

Just printed out the scorecards on Scoresaver 2. Does anyone know which of the 2 courses we're playing. I'm guessing that it's the old course.

Debating whether to go down the driving range tomorrow night, but doubt if my shoulder will hold out for that and the round on Wednesday.

Clubs cleaned - check
Shoes cleaned - check
Battery charged - check
Waterproofs packed - check
Balls bought - check
Ability - haven't got a clue where that is. :D

Looking forward to it regardless of the weather. Though the rough in front of the tees could be an issue :(
