Grand Slam Winner
Hope you don't mind as my first post but I was a member at Crowborough Beacon for 11 years before moving down to the coast. It's a lovely course, and I miss not being there but alas it's too far to travel for me now.
Really tough track, lots of longish carries over heather, and during the summer months some of the bounces you get can be a little unfair as most of the fairways slope one way or the other. Course knowledge helps here more than most.
One of the best holes on the course is the par 4 second, it was always one of my favourites. The par 3 6th is a great short hole, and the 7th (par 5) is one of the holes where a bad bounce or two can be the difference between a birdie and double bogey.
When I first joined the course used to hold up to the bad weather really well and was hardly ever closed. But being on high ground it can be covered in snow whilst a mile down the road is completely clear, and it can also get quite misty up there, making for some real "hit and hope" tee shots. During the mid to late 90's the course really suffered due to some bad greenkeeping practices, and they lost quite a few members. But I understand it is back to it's best now, although a lot of the old trees have been cut back for some reason.
The thing I liked most about the course was the fact that no two holes are alike. It's a great track, and one of my favourite courses to play. You will enjoy it.
