Thinking that with trying to reconstruct my bag atm I started thinking about my 3 wood. Its a cleveland launcher 13* stiff (one of the yellow ones). It looks proper old school with its head which was part of the reason I bought it. When I hit it its a beast but far too often the ball ends up out of town. Instead of buying a new one I thought about the following. I think the reason for its inconsistency is that the shaft is too whippy for me. What do you guys think to replacing the shaft with a stiff one that gives a really penetrating flight (i know nothing about shafts). I dont believe the distance warrants the potential disaster it can cause so i also thought about getting an inch and a half cut off the shaft length for extra control which should allow me to play some controlled punch shots. Will cutting it down require me to adjust lies and what not as im not the tallest? I rekon with these adjustments I could create a mini missile launcher with a ridiculously drilled ball flight to keep the ball in play. Im excited just thinking about it haha

All in all - would you attempt something like this or just trade it in cos 3 woods are soo much better than mine these days

If you are going down the Voodoo route, buy a Benross VX proto 3 wood and take the shaft out of that. You can pick them up for £60 on ebay and that I believe is far cheaper than buying the shaft alone (no idea how they do it)

I think I'm a bit of a luddite but surely it must be easier just to buy a new club with the shaft you want (even if you have to go C/F and get the length changed at the same time) than taking two shafts out and putting the new one back into the Cleveland

A stiff shaft cut down is going to feel xtra stiff to super xtra stiff to play depending on where the kickpoint is. It could end up feeling plain awful and you'll hit the ball nowhere. Rather than cut the shaft, why not just choke down the grip a bit? That will make it less whippy. The club should be far enough away from your body at address that the grip butt won't get snagged in clothing or anything.

Seems to work for Anthony Kim who isn't tall either.

Why is your 13 degree 3w not already giving a penetrating flight?

I also think the lack of loft is what is making it difficult to control, not the length of the shaft.
