Just had an extended break, should have been one week, but the volcanic ash extended my holiday in Sicily by a week.

First game back today, out with Imurg as normal, however I hit the ball really nicely. Only a couple of poor fairway woods, but all in all the best I've played for a long time, or so I thought.

Imurg keeps the card, (he likes to keep his stats) imagine my disbelief when he totes it all up at at the end and I've come in with an 80.......... my best ever score around the course, and a total of 41 points! Imurg played solid as well coming in with another 80 and 37 points!

So the secret is go away on holiday, get stressed with an extended break, without any information from your carrier, no flights in the whole of europe and with the other half going nuts about getting home. Then walk out on a lovely sunny day, with the course in great condition, an just swing the club. Simples.....!

What a daft game we play!

What it does do is get rid of all those swing thoughts that we get bogged down with by playing regular golf. You have no expectations ergo your mind is clear to play the shots

You know this sounds familiar! My father in law storms around a course after a few weeks away. Then he focusses in on the poor parts of his game and gradually gets worse until his next break.

Spot on jammydodger - it's about relaxation and expectation!

Now, I wonder if I'll be able to remember that when I'm next on the first tee?!?!?! :-)

Just as he gets over the trauma of getting stuffed big time by his brother you turn up and duff him as well. Good shooting though. I presume you didn't go the whole Jesper Parnevik and eat any of the dust!!

I bow to CVG's consistency today. Had it not been for a torrid 7 on a par 3 - dodgy drive, pitch lodged under the lip of a bunker, unplayable, 2 to get out and 2 putts - I'd have only lost by a point or 2. So not unhappy with the day's play.
We used it as practice for the upcoming Matchplay. I'm giving 2,4 and 11 shots away!!

See he has been practising 24/7 to make sure he doesnt get beaten again this week.

7 on a par 3 with a bunker, Thats gotta be the 5th hole, 205 yds
Thats gotta hurt.

Welcome back CVG
