Hi everyone

Looking for recommendations from anyone who is in that area? Over the Easter weekend we're trying to organise a family thing which involves people breaking a journey/travelling from different places. The optimum point to meet has been identified as the junction of the M40 and M25, so round the Uxbridge area.

So, has anyone got any recommendations for hidden gems round that way? I did think of Ealing, only a couple of miles in along Western Avenue - I played that last year in the KoKs qualifier that Jimbob organised. Also thought of Stoke Park, and Buckinghamshire GC, but those are a bit too pricy.

So, what we're looking for is:
Within 10-15 miles of that motorway junction
A well maintained track that must have good greens
Not massively long - a couple of the attendees are older and don't hit it too far, we want somewhere where they can be competitive. 6000 rather than 7000!
Mid-priced, maybe £50 max each? We'll either be a 3 or a 4, so we can't rely on 4-ball deals either.
Likely to allow visitor green fees on a bank holiday mid to late morning.

All suggestions gratefully received!

Uxbridge GC itself, Denham GC or Pinner Hill GC

Richings Park has six appallingly bad holes to start the round and the final 12 are OK. But the first six are like playing through a council housing complex. And don't go near Stockley Pines, which used to be a cracking course but has now become an absolute dog track.

Airlinks, Stockley Park, Thorney Park, Wexham Park, Stoke Park, Cross, Denham, Ritchings Park, Iver, Moor Park, Rickmansworth Public, Haste Hill, Northwood, The Buckinghamshire, Ruislip. You are almost spoilt for choice round here.:)

Where I grew up. First ever lesson was at Harefield Place. A very nice course but a few holes closed now with all the work that's going on there. Try Ruislip (excellent facility), Farnham Park, Pinner Hill (there used to be a special visitor rate, one day a week), Rickmansworth Muni.

Stockley Pines is good but can be slow. The South Buckinghamshire is good but may be a bit far out.

Northwood is also really good but a bit far out. Avoid Haste Hill, Airlinks, Wexham Park as they are a bit naff. Ruislip isn't great either. Hillingdon is a 9 hole played twice, bit tight.

Uxbridge is 12 holes, not ideal! Pinner Hill is ok, can be very wet this time of year.

Rickmansworth is good but again a bit of a drive from Uxbridge, as is Batchworth Park - but that might have playing restrictions on a weekend.

If you don't mind a slower round Stockley Pines is good.

I am a member of Batchworth Park. Whilst it is a lovely course, unfortunately they don't accept green fee players unless they are a guest of a member, or they are members of another Crown Group club. Rickmansworth public course is quite short and has the nickname 'Tricky Ricky', because it is quite tight with lots of slopes and bumpy fairways. Of the pay and play courses, I would personally recommend Haste Hill and Wexham Park. If you want to spend more money, you might also consider The Grove near Watford, near Junction 19 of the M25, so easy to get to.

Ruislip is in terrible condition at the moment and I would avoid playing unless it's the summer, Wexham park is better played at the weekend and overal is good or as others have suggested haste hill would be a good choice with a tricky par 3 to start. Or you could try west London golf centre ( the old line trees site ) it's a public course with a couple good holes and condition has been excellent but not played recently but know it's carry only at the moment.

There's also the stunningly good looking new course at West London (just off the A40 at Polish War Memorial). 9-holer designed as a 'proper' course. Certainly worth going round twice!

Finchley and Hendon aren't too far away and I know that both take Weekend Green Fees. Grims Dyke is a pleasant shortish course - with evil greens - that might work too.
