Course snack

A teacake is also a teacake in the part of Lancashire that I come from, what you call a teacake is a currant teacake.
Is that just on the border? I grew up in Cheshire, went into Lancashire frequently, never seen it called that there. Fascinating differences in language in small areas.

Nuts or a couple of boiled eggs. An occasional playing partner makes his way through bananas, sandwiches and home made fruit cake!

I can eat anything that anyone calls a teacake - all good.

But I like to put 2 of these in my golf bag, if I think that I will need feeding on the golf course...

Proper nutrition whilst exercising can help to reduce inflammation so it could actually help with backache in the long run 😉
Most exercise of the nature of golf I have seen precisely zero evidence of any requirement for shoving food in your face during the exercise
I have never seen any suggestion anywhere of food during exercise facilitating Backache.
If you can put forward any genuine peer reviewed evidence I will happily read it.

I’d have to dig out the specific links but Harvard and Cambridge universities medical departments both published research on anti inflammatory diets helping to reduce lower back pain in 2023/2024, National institute for health(US) did a similar study in 2022 which showed those eating anti inflammatory diets had significantly reduced lower back pain than they had before they started it. MEHTA Spine institute (UK)also published benefits of how certain diets affect lower back pain as have the British college of Osteopathic medicine. Not to mention British heart foundation have done the same on the benefits for heart health and arthritis prevention.

Only reason I know is because side in my line of work Low back pain is hugely common and something we’ve had several lectures on the benefits of eating right as well as training right.

As for eating during golf, honestly nobody needs to convince you to do anything,
It’s personal preference. You know your body better than anyone as I do mine. I know mine needs fuelling every 2-3hrs due to the amount of physical activity I do at work and in the gym etc. we’re all different.

I will happily concur with that. I don't doubt that a well structured overall diet can be beneficial to health and well being including things like Backache.
Just a bit sceptical that my current habit of not usually eating during a round of golf is particularly detrimental to my health or golf.

Not convinced that cereal bars, chocolate bars, sausage rolls and the rest represent "proper nutrition".
They can prevent death from lack of nutrition. Better than nothing, maybe.

I feel the need to eat if my tee-time means that my usual lunch time will be out on the course.
To accompany my two mini pork pies I will have a couple of radishes or a couple of plum tomatoes, maybe a carrot. One time I had some small pickled onions.
I might also include an apple or a banana.
I don't know anyone else who takes raw vegetables in their golf bag.

Our mates a star... There's normally 4 or 5 of us and he makes us 2 rolls on square each... Feels like a total life saver sometimes..

My neighbour collapsed a couple of weeks ago after playing on a very hot day and not eating or drinking on the course.

He was out cold for about 4 or 5 minutes. Doc said he was dangerously dehydrated.

I always have a flask with water or squash, ice in the summer. I'll always eat a banana, cereal bar and or flapjack while playing. If I dont I always feel hungry on the way round.
