Club Champs are a 'special' comp, so no problem that they are set up differently, which generally means harder. It shouldn't end up like Shinnecock Hills on the Saturday though!
Quite so. As it happens this past weekend was our club championship, and the greens were silly fast with some brutal pin positions that meant any downhill putt that shaved the hole ended up off the green.

Some uphill putts that didn't quite reach the hole just rolled back to where they started (or further away). Surely as a matter of principle no putt should ever actually reverse direction?

Several people commented that it shouldn't be like the US Open.

There's tough and there's insane. I feel the fact that both rounds ended up as reductions only says it all.

There will be areas of the green where this will happen; on some courses/greens it will even happen when the green is at its slowest!

As a matter of principle the hole shouldn't be positioned within around 3ft of such slopes though.
