Located near Biggin Hill in Kent, this is a parkland course that is a par 72 that plays 6,380 yards off the white tees.
This is a pretty course.
In that the tees are pretty crap, the fairways are pretty crap and the overall condition is pretty crap.
But the greens are not pretty crap. They are the worst I have ever played on in over 20 years of playing golf.
The overall layout from the late 1960s is a fairly good one and there are some good holes in terms of design. Except that the greens are way too small for the yardage of the course and even the largest is around half the size of a modern PGA-specification putting surface.
The club tries hard and even has the white-yellow-red flag system to indicate where the hole is on the green. But when your average green depth is 19 yards, then it makes it a complete farce.
The actual greens have more than your average disease on them. They are pock-marked more than an adolescent's face with acne, have holes and scarring everywhere, and it is more luck than judgement if anything actually goes in.
Memorable holes? The 19th knowing that when you've downed your pint, you are driving off and never coming back.
Smiffy, this place really could take Lydd on for the Worst Course in the country.
