This little heatwave we are in at the moment is really throwing up a lot of situations that need a real rethink about how to get your ball round the course.

Ball seemingly flying forever, hazards that are never in play now becoming well within reach, fairways playing so much narrower, trees and rough in play across doglegs etc.

More than ever, over the last few rounds I've been thinking about where best to miss.

Really enjoyed a (kind of) new challenge over the last couple of weeks. Just need to sort right hand grip out to stop club slipping - may have to go Tommy Gainey 2 glove style!!!!!!

Totally agree mate. Hitting the ball ridiculous distances so yardages shot to pieces, very little bite on greens and crazy fairway bbounces. All adds to the fun though, especially with the crazy rough we've got!

I'm not finding it too bad stopping the ball on our greens apart from pitches running a bit further, but been hitting a lot of different clubs off the tees though.

Not looking forward to going back to hitting driver - 6 iron on holes that are currently playing 4 wood - 9 iron!

Totally. From 6 iron down, hitting the green is important to have some sort of idea and control over that first bounce.

Played a once a year course yesterday in a county oom event - have never played the place with it so firm and hot before so had little clue over lay up distances. Rescue club gently uphill into slight breeze went 55 yards further than expected and brought bunkers into play that I'd never even noticed before.

Great fun and good challenge though!! :)

with the greens so firm at the minute it is really important not to miss the pin on the wrong side. ive noticed a few pin placements at lee park where its next to impossible to get up and down when short sided and the pin sitting with the green sloping away.

really do have to use extra care course management. :) robobum is on the money here.

Greens and tees are holding up well but we don't have fairway watering so everything else is brown. There are no some places that have become no go zones. The right of the 7th green between the bunker and 8th tee is bare so it leaves a chip over sand of a bare and possibly side hill lie. Not appetising.

The ball is running miles and so lay up shots also require a lot more thought. I hit a 6 iron to end up short of the cross bunker on the 2nd. Fortunately I faded it unintentionally as it ran for miles and would have been in it if I hadn't gone right. Lots of places where driver or even 3 wood is no longer the right call. I like it. Makes it a completely different course to play

Surely you need to assess the conditions - and your swing - every round!

It's just that these 'extreme' conditions bring it into focus rather mor.

Try playing more links golf. Never quite the same, and often very different, from 1 round to the next!

Its a great problem to have because for the last couple of years the only bouncy fairways I've played on were in Spain. So its like we're all having a couple of weeks golf abroad at the moment, so don't worry about it, enjoy it and club down or choke down on the grip.
