Course closed tomorrow...

And golf clubs will have the free will too close to show respect - you won’t be forced to watch the funeral or even show respect for the day

The greenstaff won’t be there to set the course up ,no clubhouse staff

I suspect England golf will ask clubs to close

But I guess it’s modern society now to only think about what they want as opposed to the bigger picture but it’s no different to when golf was closed during Covid
Exactly like COVID with various people taking upon themselves to tell us all what we should be doing and how to behave.

Why does closing a business reflect a show of respect? There could easily be a minute or two silence arranged for 11am (or at the appropriate juncture). Surely a collective gesture like that would be sufficient. Can a governing body actually ask clubs to close as you mention? They may recommend or state that no scores will be processed for the day. I’d doubt they could or even should mandate though.

I hope they at least leave the option of playing on the course open.....Nothing from ours yet. It won't kill me to not play next Monday, but I don't see any reason to stop everybody from doing things they enjoy (and hate) for the funeral. FORCING everybody to take the day off for reflection seems a bit......forceful.....and takes away my right to live my life as I see fit (and legal). Can I go out for a walk? Can I watch tv? I'll admit I'm a bit miffed that the news is 100% on this subject......Pakistan is under water, Ukraine war is going on, W US on fire, new PM, etc etc...... It's BIG news, many people are interested.....but......to stop all other news.....??

Some businesses may believe that taking a day away from the working life might be the best way to show respect and Rememberance for the passing of such a pivotal figure within the UK and indeed wider commonwealth

Only have to see the pictures of people out whilst the coffin is moved to see what the countries feeling is

By closing it does allow those who want to honour to do so and those that don’t can just have the day off

EG can’t force courses to close but they can make recommendations etc and at the moment clubs can carry on as normal or close if they wish

It’s all new to many as don’t think many of us were around when the last reigning monarch passed away

But can't do things like play golf in their spare time? Just sit and commune with God (IFFFFF you are religeous)? I'm not good at communing......rather smack the crap out of a golf ball.

Our course will be closed all day and players are requested not to turn up.
"Due to no staff onsite to welcome you we are not covered by insurance for anyone to use the facilities at the Club."

Your club does not allow golfers on Xmas? Insurance only works at certain times?

Bizarre one. Most clubs will have play on the course with no staff around, even if it is early morning, evenings, etc. So has the club no insurance once the last staff member leavers ? I guess you are OK if you have your own insurance in any case.

On the issue itself, I think it is such a rare event, and of a nature that respect is only shown if the whole of the country conforms, that there is a good case for observance by golfers and forsaking their game for one day. Some playing, some not playing, is effectively golf open. The gesture, recognition, and respect are lost. Individual choice is good, and has is place in society today. But their are cases when acting as a nation, rather than individuals, has its place too. I think this is such a case.

I don’t think allowing access to a golf course (no staff need to necessarily be in attendance) changes the notion of respect or impacts on anyone else in terms of how they want to pay respect.

Why would having a golf course open lesson the amount of respect being paid? For example, there could be an organised minutes silence. Or the club could block tee times at a specific time, players could wear black etc etc. Plus your point about the WHOLE of the country conforming is frankly, a bit weird.

I suspect each club will view it differently- people are being given the day off for the funeral as opposed to getting a game of golf in

Believe schools will be closed etc but don’t expect the pay and play courses to close
