County Cards

Evening all,

so, as is often the way, I was reading another thread, it starts in one place and goes off on a tangent and they start mentioning something else, in this case county cards.

I don't have one and I'm not 100% sure what benefit I would get from it....

I am a member of a club in Nottinghamshire, play very regularly at my home club (multiple times a week in summer and almost every weekend in winter), like to play opens at other courses and have at times played society golf around Notts and most recently with a society in the West Mids.

When would I use it in the above usual golfing situations? &
What would I get out of it?
Presumably the benefits are only redeemable with my own county, please correct me if wrong.

Please educate me.

Played 51 different courses last year and used the card three times.

In Lancashire you ask the county an they will send you a card free of charge, you then get it authorised by your club.

You can use it at the participating clubs in your own county plus clubs in the other counties that are in the joint scheme.

Not all clubs are in the scheme so there are limits to where you can use it
You normally get guest of a member rate

At our place norwood park near southwell we just ask in the club shop for one.

Just to confirm your county cards are not free. The cost of the card is wrapped up your annual fees

Ours cost £13 and are obtained from the county secretary. Savings involved when using them mean they normally pay for themselves after one visit.

Use mine when playing a practice round before opens or UKSGA events.

So in Wiltshire it is free then as you can't get out of paying your annual fees

Interesting, first I've heard of this!

Has anyone got experience of using these in Northumberland and what sort of deals they've had from it? I've seen the below link but this looks like a comprehensive list of all clubs, unless they do all participate?

The above link should help with courses in the scheme.

Norfolk do not at present partake in the national scheme but have their own county card for use in Norfolk only.


If you are just playing other courses in opens or as part of a society then there will be no benefit in having a card

We are given a county card in Norfolk that gives half price green fees at nearly every course in the county. Just noticed Hunstanton and brancaster have been added for this year.

Also get half price at selected courses in Suffolk, Essex, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.
