correct format for prizes

At least you got a prize,i came second in a comp last year at a course in WALES tee'd off at 7-10 am left my house at 3-30 am to meet the mini bus arranged by my club arrived at the course at 6-15 quick becky and out, back in club house 41/2 hours later gave my card in along with my h/c cert as i was in first position by a mile, had some lunch and waited for the other chaps in my group to come in as non had done well we decided to leave for home approx 5-30 pm,before i left i was told to write down in preference the prize i would like if i stayed in the top 5 at the close of comp i duly did and handed to the comp sec a shake of the hand and a well done from him and off we went. The following day i phoned and was told you came second, when i asked what prize i would be getting ( the bag or shoes or putter) i was told NON because i hadn't staid for the presentation that was held at 10 pm after the comp. RIP OFF nothing mentioned about any presentation and i even put the card in to my club as an away comp result.

Club Championships should not have nett results or prizes.
Why should a bunch of hackers spoil the one day of the year when the members can play the game as it is supposed to be played.
You can just hear some saying 'I finished one over for 36 holes of the club championship' The won't say it was in reality 201-56=145
Listening to all the moaning about prizes can I remind everyone that we play as amateurs.

To be fair, our club championship is called "The Derek Lane Handicap Club Championship"

Last year we had a scratch cup as well but they canned it and decided to play both on the same day

I'm all for gross deciding club champs (best golfer in the club) but no way I'd want to play comps every week gross only. Hardly fair for 90% of the field and no point having a handicap

Gross competitions are fair for 100% of the field.

It must be quite a dishonour to win your club championship if it was unfair to 90% of the field.
