Cornwall golf

Will keep an eye on this thread. Heading down to Paignton in October for a wedding. Hopefully get a round in while I'm down.

Paignon is in Devon.
Depends what sort of course your after when your down here.
Still haven't found this St Enedoc course anywhere, must be one of those "hidden gems".
St Enodoc has 2 courses, the Church course which requires a handicap cert and the Holywell course which is shorter and open to all. (easier to get onto as well)
Lanhydrock is a good course, Bowood is a good test or if your really down west then Killiow is an interesting parkland course to go out on.

Cornwall's a big place chap, whereabouts are you going?

I have stay in Mawgan Porth so have played Trevose (overrated) and Merlin (Fairways and greens in a cow field!), however I have heard lots of good things about St Endoc.

I did go to Devon twice last year and played Dartmouth and Thurlestone. Dartmouth is a good but hard test (owned by Nigel Mansell i think), however Thurlestone is my favourite course in the UK with the course being very challenging due to the high winds coming off the sea and the views are simply spectacular, to me its Pebble Beach in the UK. £42 and you can play all day.

Nigel Mansell's course is Woodbury near Exeter. I agree that Dartmouth is a great test of golf as is St Mellion in Cornwall.

Went on a golf trip to cornwall last september a nice course which is half links and half parkland is Carolyn Bay. We played on there Texas scramble day. Lovely couse.

St Enodoc (Church) lovely course probabl the best I've played in the UK. Lovel days golf apart from the rain :P

I enjoyed Trevose, mainly because I played well. As others have said slightly overated.

St.Mellion I didn't enjoy so much. Think it was beacuse I carried around it and it's a massive slog if you carry. Definitely get a buggy if you play it.

Sorry for not replying earlier.
We are going down near trevose. My son was supposed to have been playing in the U16 English boys but missed the cut by 0.3 as he is off 3.7 so thought we would hit some other golf courses
Thanks

They will love St Enodoc, great links challenge.
St Mellion Nicklaus course can be soul destroying especially if the weather is windy and wet.
Royal North Devon is an interesting course with free drops from the sheep sh!t!
Lanhydrock and Bowood are good parkland courses.
The only course I have played down west is Killiow, I really enjoyed playing it even though I played like a complete douch bag. They say the 9th is the hardest hole in Cornwall. It's certainly up there, par 5 475 yards with OOb up the right and a stream with 3 ponds up the left, a real target golf hole.

Agree with the plaudits for Carlyon Bay - lovely course and will be there from 8th July.

IIRC first 6 holes along cliff tops with the 1st looking like a carpet has been laid along the fairway with the views over the cliffs and beyond.

Need a break now - can't wait.

I agree with the other posts saying Trevose is overrated, Considering its position in the top100 rankings. But it's still a very good course and set up.
It doesn't really feel like Links land and I think that's what lets a lot of people down, especially when they turn Up expecting rolling dunes and tight links turf.
I'm going back there in a few weeks, and looking forward to it, also looking to play St Enodoc.
