Nice one chap.

Taking it on extra holes shows a cool head and will stand you in good stead in future games.

Great day all round for you.

Well what can I say, I'm still struggling to believe it

An absolutely fantastic couple of days. We had a nice warmup match on the Saturday which saw me and Odvan crush Chiefio & Glyn 7&6. They didn't win a hole until the 17 when I got confused about what score Matt had, they celebrated like they had won :D

The main event starts with a player auction on the Saturday night where people bid on all the competitors with the owners of top 8 finishers all getting a percentage of the pot depending where they finish etc. So they were going through all the groups starting with lower handicaps first in the early groups and they were getting bid up quite dramatically and as they got lower down the order the bids dried up a bit. By the time they got to the last group which me, Odvan and Chiefio were in bids weren't so forthcoming! The auctioneer bust a gut trying to sell me for the starting price of £10 but nobody wanted me until Glyn put in a sympathy bid which proved to be a shrewd move :D

Yesterday was the main comp with 36 holes medal on the hotchkin, gulp. Having played the event a few years ago I had my idea of how I was going to play it and off we went. I just tried to play ultra sensible keeping the ball in play and chipping out to take a cheeky par or easy bogey when in trouble. Even playing like this it was so hard to keep the big numbers off the card, had a couple of quad bogeys over the 36 holes but stayed patient and stuck to my guns. Plenty of provisionals on the day as conditions were quite tricky with a swirly wind kicking around. We had a good vibe in our three ball and any bad shots were duly followed with sarcastic remarks or laughter :D

So after dodging bullets for about 27 holes and 7 hours it got to the back 9 and reports were filtering round the course that the leaders from the morning were having a torrid time in the afternoon. At this stage I knew I had a chance despite a ropey 10 over front 9 with a quad bogey. I started the back 9 pretty well and kept it tight, the putter was smoking hot and kept saving me when needed. After a nice birdie on 17 I was 3 over for the back 9 with one to play so very much in with a shout. The 18th is a tough bugger especially into the wind though and it stole 2 shots off me, at this stage I was absolutely drained and had no idea where that would sit but glad to be finished or so I thought :D

As we came off Glyn met us walking to the car and after telling him my score he told me I was tied for the lead so leave my stuff out. I don't know what happens next he says and Oh yeah the guy your tied with is off scratch

Off we went to the clubhouse to find out what happened next, no sooner had I sipped a drink they announced the sudden death playoff over holes 1,2,3,4 & 18. "No shots on the first hole so it looks like it's all about the first" claimed the captain as he announced the playoff which was met with laughter. I think there was probably only 3 people in that room thinking I could win. Game on.

After a few mins faffing on the putting green we were called to the tee with about 30-40 people congregating to watch . I lost the toss so he chose to go first and spanked a 3 or 4 iron straight down the middle, despite not feeling my arms and struggling to get the ball on the tee I hit a good driver down the middle just past his opening shot. He was first on the approach and hit it to the back fringe about 20ft from hole. I hit a solid shot but slightly pulled it left into edge of deep rough/ trees. From there I chipped out and got too good contact on it and it rolled into bunker, you could feel the pity from the people watching lol & opponent calls unlucky mate. So I trudge back round the green in absolute silence thinking I can't let it end like this & then stiff the bunker shot to 3ft to at least make him win it. After a nervy first putt leaving it 4ft short it was still on him and he missed it followed by gasps from the crowd, I holed mine and on we went.

The second playoff hole I had a shot so slight pressure on him but he smoked a driver straight down fairway surprise surprise :D. I followed with a solid drive down the left half leaving a good look at the green. I hit a nice 6 iron to left half of green about 40ft away from flag on right tucked over the bunker. He hits a gap wedge straight over flag to about 15ft leaving a tricky breaking putt. After lagging my putt up to 4ft right of the hole I knew from there if he missed it was mine. To be fair to him he hit a great putt that stopped about an inch short leaving me a 4ft putt to win which just caught enough of the hole to go down and secure the win :whoo:

It was an experience I will never forget especially the playoff. A fantastic couple of days with superb company that made it. On the afternoon round I could see Josh and Matt trying their best to stay out my way and keep me going, the whispering gave it away :D. I've never seen Glyn so happy as when I turned round after sinking that winning putt, he had his wallet out ready  Takes a lot make that mon happy so I knew I had done well

Massive thanks to all the messages of congratulations, means a lot. Apologies for going on a bit :D

Congratulations, excellent performance, nice write up.
