Evening all,
Was out this morning and in relation to my post earlier in the week about being too technical over making my own yardage guide for my home course , this morning i reached the conclusion that im not right in the head!I now see the sense in being a good judge of distance and at least i can say iv tried the yardage book thing and i doesnt work for me.
The only time the guide came out of my pocket was to see what club i needed to hit for my estimated distance which before my moment of technical madness had been the case.
I came off the 18th with 31 points off a 19 handicap with my new Wilsonstaff FG Tour Irons.Only my second round with them.
Happy out :D :D
And the said yardage guide has been binned....Back to old faithful

Simplest thing is to invest in a DMD or laser and be done. At least you'll know exactly how far it is and then if it goes wrong its entirely down to you and not indecision because you're not sure.

Distances were ok.....It just felt like it slowed everything up for me..... I have a fair idea of what clubs to hit off our tee's but i felt that i already new what club to hit before i even went for the book which more often than not was right.

I even put the ball on our 500yard par 5 in 2 with my 3W after a good drive...Something i rarely do as i normally hit 2 wedges into the same hole. But this morning i just felt good with the 3W off the deck for my 2nd

And as was said to me you need to take into account wind direction and strength rain and whatever else is thrown at you....
I just felt that i was trying to concentrate too much on where i wanted to put the ball rather than just going with instinct.

Evening Homer,
I actually think ill give the DMD a rain check as i cant justify the expense.
Im going to go with my ability for a year or 2 and learn my trade i think. :D

Hey Kid, Nothing ventured nothing gained. At least you know it doesn't work for you having tried something different. Glad the new irons are going well. T

Irons are going well Tiger..... I boned a 4 Iron alright and that stung a bit but that was my fault and not the club....

Hapless.....I dont understand people who say they..... Cant....Iv a younger brother that also comes out with that word at times....He keeps telling me he Cant use his 4 Iron ....Yet he nailed it twice today :D

Sorry it didn't work for you.

Why don't you just keep a record of fairways hit,and greens in regulation, you might be surprised at the info. that you can get hole by hole.

Am I right in thinking you did your own because your there isn't one for your course?

It seems a shame you feel it hasn't helped. Although many players are happy not to use a course planner and certainly at your home course, it ought to be second nature to rely on experience, but it seems a bit premature to bin the idea altogether. You're not thinking of relying purely on sight/feel around an unknown course?

Your 100% correct Dave....Our course has none thats why i decided to try my own.....
I havent physically chucked it in the bin iv just put it away.....
Im pretty familiar with my own course as iv played probably close on 100 rounds over the past 12 months on it so its not completely alien to me.....
The 150mtr markers are stakes on one side of the fairways as a guide and there is also 200,150,100mtr plates in the middle of the fairways.
Before i decided to make the guide i would pace out my distances from these markers and i have a card i carry in my pocket of how far i hit each club so it was just a matter of comparing one to the other.
Also i always ply to the green centre as i find it the safer option so i wasnt getting caught up in small distances....

Try adding 10 yards to your green centre so if its 150 to the centre, club yourself for 160yds.
Try it for 9 holes and see how many times you miss the green short. :)
