Genesis, live at the Budokan March '87. She said yes but I couldn't reconcile myself with spending the money... it would have ticked 2 boxes, Tokyo and Genesis.

I used to live in Tokyo for a couple of years. I’ve been to the Budokan a few times and have actually demonstrated in there on the main floor. Alas, I had to make do with seeing Genesis at Wembley.

the concert I wish I had been at was SummerXS at Wembley back In 1991. I had tickets, but went to play golf in the morning with some Japanese friends at Donnington Grove. Didn’t get back home in time to go to the concert, girlfriend at the time was fuming. I missed out on The Hothouse Flowers, Debbie Harry and INXS.....

One I had tickets for, but one of the band was sick so it didnt happen was Fleetwood mac in Manchester the other year.
Concert cancelled due to illness? I can top that.

My wife and I are big fans of a Dutch band called Kayak. I arranged a secret weekend trip to Amsterdam to see them. Two weeks before the gig their drummer died of a heart attack and the tour was cancelled.

Why is it always the drummer?

We missed Runrig's farewell concert at Stirling 2018 due to my wife being ill.
They showed it on a live thread on U Tube last week. It was both brilliant and sad at the same time.
Makes you realise what a brilliant guitarist Malcolm Jones is, and could not believe 20 years have past since Donnie Munro left the band.

I can't give a specific concert but I would have loved to have seen The Jam at their peak and Elvis, before Vegas.

For those who wanted to see Queen in 86, would it help if I told you how good they were on that tour? ?. I saw them at Knebworth Park and they were off the scale. If it makes it better for people, that concert damaged all future concerts for me. No concert since has compared.

I saw Queen at Wembley and Knebworth on that tour and agree that they were great - i was a big Quo fan so it was good that they were on the bill as well. Saw Queen a couple of times subsequently with Paul Rodgers and thought they were a great combo - really suited, and PR is a tremendous singer with a stellar career. Not seen them with Lambert - although they get good reviews, looks to much like he is trying to mimic Freddie?

Pistols at the Free Trade Hall in Manchester. Heartbreakers/Talking Heads/Blondie on the same bill at CBGBs in 1975. The New Order + Liam Gillick: So it goes concerts from a couple of years ago. Had tickets to see Nirvana but then Kurt killed himself so that was that, would love to have seen them on the In Utero tour. The Smiths in the mid 80s. Beatles gigs in relatively small venues where people were just screaming constantly.

I’m sitting at home with the family watching Queen live at Wembley 86. A concert I would have loved to be in attendance.
But I’d also have loved have seen Elvis in Vegas, any Prince concert or Led Zeppelin at Earls Court.

What concert didn’t you attend, but wish you had?

Good choice. I was lucky to see him when he was playing all his hits, got near the front, he finished with Purple Rain, it was better than you could ever imagine ;) Best show I've ever seen, and I have seen a few in my time.

Barclay James Harvest free concert at the Reichstag Berlin. 175000 supposed to have been there, but possibly up to another 75000 listening on the East German side of the wall. The atmosphere must have been amazing.

I had a ticket to see Floyd on The Wall tour at Earls Court but couldn't go. Always wanted to see Bowie as well but never got the chance.

U2 on my hitlist.

Missed Steve Vai at Portsmouth Guildhall a few years ago. Very annoying.

From memory I saw him as part of the G3 tour in around 2004/5, and whilst i admire him and Satriani for their technical skills (didnt Satch practice 9 hours a day at one point), it felt a bit of a guitar contest (to see who could play fastest), rather than a concert which could have showcased different styles (eg, rock, blues, jazz etc).

I did manage to see Joe two years ago doing another G3, this time with John Petrucci and Uli John Roth. The separate sets were really good although Uli John was a bit loud. As far as practice goes, Joe taught both Steve Vai and Kirk Hammett, and i think it was Steve who was renowned for practicing ten hours a day, not saying that Joe didn't do a bit here and there.
