Have just bought a new small form factor pc and connected to 2 monitors via hdmi cables. However, picture quality is awful. The problem seems to stem from the fact that the monitors are 1920 x 1200 resolution (16x10 ratio) however the graphics output has a max resolution of 3840 x 2160 (16x9 ratio).

is there anyway of getting the monitors to work with this graphics output or do i need to look to upgrade the monitors to 1920x1080 ones?

Fundy:

There is not a work around to this, I am afraid. Time to treat yourself to a couple of new monitors!

hmm, not convinced.

turns out if i connect my tv then it offers me many many more resolutions all the way upto 4k including 1920x1200. So it is possible for the graphics to run on it, it just doesnt identify the monitor as that resolution.

if 1920x1200 is not possible why do they still sell monitors of this resolution?

Expect the pc may go back and we'll rethink the whole solution lol

Difficult to comment without knowing the monitor computer specs. e.g. Windows, Apple, Android OS etc.

Do you have any controls on the monitor - some have small button which when held down allow access to a 'hidden' settings menu.

I'm guessing you've tried playing with the 'windows' control menu or graphics card BiOS?

windows 10, i7 6500u processor with intel hd520 graphics (hdmi and display port outputs, the display port has a display port to hdmi cable in it)

monitor has multiple options, have tried changing inputs and modes etc

have spent half a day on the graphics menus/intel options etc, not done anything in the bios though (and wouldnt really know how to)

edit: this is the barebones unit https://www.scan.co.uk/products/gig...sata-acwifi-usb-31-c-dp-hdmi-(w-o-memory-hdd)

right click desktop >> display settings >> advanced display settings.. There's a drop down in there to set resolution, but it will only show the levels its supports..

yes and no

it will support 1920x1200 as shown when plugging in the tv but doesnt have it as an option for the monitor even though thats the native resolution. The problem is the pc thinks the monitor is 1920x1080 but it isnt

The monitor has to support the resolutions too.
