I'm after some advice from any computer experts out there. My eldest son has a PC that was mainly for gaming but he has now got into photo shop designing logos for his mates youtube channels and the like.
He is after adding a second monitor which we are planning to buy him for Christmas but I'm overwhelmed by the amount of choice.
The monitor he has is an ASUS VS248HR.
I've considered simply buying another 24" monitor or buying 2 x 27" (had it in my head that the bigger the better) monitors and selling the old one. Max budget would be £450 but quite happy to spend less.
I've done a bit of research but would welcome any advice.

Cheers

Mick

Higher refresh rates help the eye. I've just got a new 144hz monitor and it's head and shoulders better than my old one.
24 inch @ 1920x1080 is more than enough I would have thought unless he's doing high end stuff. Plenty of options out there in your price budget.

Personal opinion is as screens get bigger viewing angles become more important, so would look for an IPS panel (or a VA one) and not a TN panel. If hes doing design work then colour reproduction also becomes important.

Having used multiple monitor set ups for years Im a fan of having the monitors the same, just feel you get more consistency that way so personally would replace both and sell the one he has. Also consider if he is just having them on a desktop or needs to put them on a stand/wall mount etc, one big failing with some of the cheaper end monitors is the lack of flexibility in the stand which then makes it hard to configure them optimally

The alternative would be to go to one even bigger screen with a higher resolution (ie a 32" 4k monitor) which would give him as much real estate on the screen as 24" ones would

Plenty of good deals on monitors of late so should be able to buy within your budget comfortably

If he's anything like me then he'll be very picky about his IT. I know a lot of people don't like doing this as they want the "surprise factor" but ask him. He will/should know what monitor he'll want.

My lad is getting a gaming PC for his Christmas and I have gone for two of these https://www.ebuyer.com/838555-element-gaming-27-qhd-144hz-1ms-gaming-monitor-gs27-v2

Set one up to test it, didn't expect a huge amount considering the price but it blew me away with the clarity and the colour reproduction.

They have VESA mounts 100x100 but they are low down, luckily he will just use the stands.

Would be just over budget for you but well worth it IMO.
