Hi, just wanted some opinions please. Do you get a little fatigued with playing your home course week after week in competition play? would a mini tour constructed of one off competitions at local venues during a year be appealling? resulting in an order of merit?

i play golf in the staffordshire area and the competition schedule at my home club means i could often be playing 5 medals in consecutive weeks which can be a little draining! i enjoy playing other local tracks and often wondered why clubs dont group together to form some sort of annual competition to provide some variety. There are open comps of course on an individual basis and charity golf days too but i certainly would enjoy playing a series of events that lead to an overall winner.

Just wondered what other golfers opinions are on this? and would it be more appealing if linked to a worthy charity??

Don’t have a problem with places to play.

I usually have at least 10-15 away opens as well as inter-club competitions against; Royal Dornach, Moray, Golspie, Brora.

This summer I played opens at;

Golspie
Brora x2
Muir of ord X2
Fortrose
Grantown on Spey
Moray Old X3
Moray New
Forres
Elgin
Hopeman
NairnDunbar
Inverness x2
Spey Valley
:D :D :D

Do your surrounding clubs not have open comps?

That a good idea. We already have a deal on green fees at a few other local private member clubs but a "local champion" competition would be fun

Hi, they do yes but nothing that evolves into an order of merit. i've run these comps in a society in the past and i know the format does keep interest going, especially on a bad day when every point/stroke can count overall. I also know winter league formats work but rarely have i heard of such competitions running during summer months.

I believe that there used to be a few agreements between local clubs in the past but not any more. There used to at least be reciprocal agreements where you could play free on another local course if yours was closed for a competition that you could not enter (pro am, ladies open etc) but these seem to have died off.

EGU Golf Central and Golf Empire both show all the open comps for all sorts of standards in your (and other) areas.

yeah ive seen those sites but all are one off days as far as im aware...dont think there are any order of merits in this area but will check out the county site.

I doubt if there is an OOM for that h'cap level. All the county ones, IME, are all scratch comps with a h'cap ballot of 6 max.
