competition handicap limit

Some places allow higher handicap golfers, but they must play off 24, normally 3/4 allowance which equates to a shot a hole. May be worth contacting the clubs

will i need to join a club aswell? even though i play at least once a week and my handicap of 28 isnt confirmed or anything, is it still best to contact the comps and explain to them and see what they say?

im just usually phone up the course turn up pay and play

there wont be any club really that will allow you to play in an open comp without having a congu handicap and you need to be a member of a club to get 1

If you want to play in an "Open-to-all-visitors" type comp, then you're going to need a proper handicap.

24 and under means you need a card/certificate stating your membership of a club and an active h'cap of 24 or less.

24 in a club comp often means anyone can play, but 24 is the maximum.

It's quite simple Richie. If you want to play competitive golf, you need to have a measure of your playing ability, i.e. a CONGU handicap. To have one, you need to be a member of an affiliated club who will administer and monitor your handicap/playing ability. Join a club and join the merry bunch who continually moan about handicaps.

I don't know where you play, Richie, but you may find a club attached to a municipal course where you are basically a pay-and-play player but can pay £30-50 to be a member of an affiliated club attached to the municipal course. That way you will be able to get a CONGU handicap.

ah so i dont have to join the actually course but a club/societies that use a course as the "home"

am i right if so makes it easier and clearer for me to understand oh and cheaper which pleases the wife!!!

Had a look at Arrowe Park and it is a muni and the club fee is £125 (a bit steep) which will be in addition to what you pay per round/year to play golf.
