We only give parking spaces to Captain, Vice, and the Lady Captain. Other than that there are no real perks for those on the committee. It's long hours with plenty of hassle and full respect to those that do it

As plenty of the above. As chairman of greens, l have the perk of being moaned at 24/7 365.

Parking spaces for President, Captain, Lady Capt, Vice & Treasurer. But Captain gets an allowance also. I think its £2k but i wouldn't call it a perk. It merely offsets some of the cost of being Captain. Given they attend pretty much every occasion, home & away, and always have to put their hand in tbeir pocket, it costs them a fortune.

When I was on the Committee there were no perks.....rather more hassle from members moaning about this, that and the other while I was trying to play..

Pretty much this.

As Captain I had my subs waived for the year, but the amount of money I spent out of my own pocket on organising stuff and putting up prizes far exceeded what I "saved".

I believe the Captain/s get free subs for the year but I'm aware they spend well in excess of their subs due to commitments to the club, so that's more than acceptable.

At a previous club general committee members had access to the PSI 24 hours before the membership for competitions and as such could cherry pick the best tee times and put at least a few buddies down with them, this I thought was wrong! I know they volunteer their own time but getting your preferred tee time was a task in itself at times due to how well the comps were supported (180+), so, getting to the PSI as it opened on a specific evening and being first in the queue only to find almost an hour block of tee times were already taken, was at times, frustrating and wrong IMO!

I remember putting up a topic on here some years ago about the captain receiving courtesy of the 1st tee and getting pulled by his PP's for it on the 2nd tee when I was in a competition because I didn't offer it to the captain even though I had already waited 30 minutes in my 2-ball and then he rocked down with 3 of his nodding dogs (4-ball) and wanted to walk straight to the front!

Remember though, going to the club at least once a month under their own steam, not even getting a drink, for a 3 hour meeting in their own time, as well as lots of e-mails in a month with regards to decisions or looking into things.

When you have a shotgun start and afterwards everyone is having a beer, ordering food, shooting the breeze - these people are having to harangue people for illegible cards, cards in their back pockets, one player on the driving range whilst the rest of the clubhouse await the result (yes, you gary in derry) etc etc etc

I think they should be able to get a tee time, especially if it is one of the few (or only) perks that they get. Maybe they should only be able to invite one friend, and not necessarily 3-4, fair enough.

Isn't that what the Secretary/Assistant/Pro is for?!

I'm up the golf club about 4 times a week doing some sort of work for the comps or HC or committee - one of my perks is putting myself down plus two other when I set up the competition.

Seen quite a few posts about the cost of being a club captain. Has anyone heard of people having to decline the position because they could not afford it. Is it right to effectively have a financial bar on some members ever achieving the position. Surely it is only right that it should be fully subsidised by the club if the cost is such that some members are immediately excluded from taking the position

or as happened to me once....

Turkey Trot shotgun start followed by a presentation of the previous three months comp prizes and then the prizes for the day in question...there were 48 prizes for the Turkey Trot alone....30 of them were frozen Turkeys which had been freshly delivered whilst the comp was being played.

Any way...we'd herded all the cats, got all the cards in, entered the scores, given out all the previous comp prizes, ran through the 48 prizes for the day and were just packing stuff away and clearing the bar when a newish member approached me and asked..."did I win a prize today....only I got 34 points and my mates said that is usually good enough to win a Turkey".

I replied..."you should have done with that score....did you not hear your name called out?" He replied with no sense of shame...."I wouldnt know....I was downstairs playing snooker with my mates....I'm about to go home so just thought I'd check".

Told him that because it was perishable we'd had to give his Turkey to someone else.
