Coffee Makers

Plus 2 for nespresso - I have an older (5 years) model and would not be without it. In laws have a plumbed in gaggia bean to cup machine and they prefer ours. To me nespresso has the edge over tassimo but running costs with the tassimo will be lower I think. I get my capsules on line or at the Trafford centre.

Do the tassimo discs have milk already in them or can you get them without and add your own?
same question for the Nespresso users?

No, you add milk after it has finished.

You can buy a Cappucino Pack, which comes with an espresso capsule and a milk capsule. The Tassimo reads a bar code on the top and decides how much water/steam is required.

I normally do a plain coffee and add a drop of milk after.

The nespresso Milk frother is an advantage as you can heat up milk to add to your coffee. The only way to get froth milk from tassimo is with the Milk capsule.(t-disc)

Nespresso is great, so easy, and the coffee is good.
I love their online ordering. Ordered on Sunday evening, coffee turned up on Monday. Fantastic service.

I only use mine for espresso, so I can't comment on any milk frothing goings on.

Out-laws have nespresso, cannot recommend highly enough.

Going to have my dolche gusto in my home office as then there is no need to refrigerate milk :)

Both are OK for low quantity coffee users, I used to use it once a day for a quick cup of this or that, no one else used it so it was great value for money and no mess!

For a high volume environment pods are NOT the way to go, too expensive!

For my house the Nespresso is perfect. I have 1 latte a day. But it's mild strength, the wife will have a strong espresso a couple of times a day and a couple of strong lattes. So 3 differing choices in my house. Then offering a guest a real latte just like in a cafe is a nice touch. Quite a few friends have Nespresso and all rave about it.

Yeah makes nice coffee , not built to last though , had two ,neither lasted more than 18 months

UHHHH OHHHHH...................HID just bought a Dolce Gusto on tuesday, nice coffee, hope it lasts bit longer than 18months though.......

Just bought some more pods off ebay, 96 for £24 delivered, ( normally ) about £4 for 8 at asda, so Happydayzzzzz;)

To be fair they may have been repairable , they both ended up leaking from the seal between the water tank and the machine

Myself, my Gran, sister, parents and two aunts have Dolvhe Gustos, in all of the 3-4 years not one has failed or broken. Very reliable IMO compared to the experience my inlaws have had, who are on their 3rd nespresso BUT my wifes aunts nespresso has lasted over year with regular use with no issues.

I guess I'm a bit of a purist, as I have a Gaggia Classic. It's probably NOT what you would want to get, as it seems the Tassimo's and similar are far more convenient.

Because of space considerations in the kitchen and the likelihood of ongoing maintenance issues, I went a bit manual on the coffee set up.

Use a hand grinder. Does enough for one batch of coffee at a time (unless there's lots round, in which case I do it in advance). Once coffee is ground it goes off really quickly, and I don't have the throughput to justify a decent electric burr grinder. example is here : http://www.coffeehit.co.uk/porlex-tall-hand-grinder/p401

I have a couple of mokka pots (for espressos) and cafetiere for longer drinks.

I use an old bialetti stove top steamer for lattes. it looks like this:

I found it on the bay. My best ever buy !! You can't beat properly steamed milk. This is very low maintenance and is unlikely to ever go wrong....

Enjoy.

My coffee maker is the most expensive item I have ever invested in.

I met her 24 years ago and she makes a great cuppa
