Anyone on here know anything about these bad boys?

I am looking at new irons and these are really appealing. Spoke to my pro-shop and also my club pro and teaching pro and they reckon that these are as good as anything titleist do at present, just significantly cheaper because they arent as premium a brand.

I have hit the CB and got on with it fantastically, really liked it. I am getting a couple of MB clubs off the cobra rep to try.

Do you think making a blended set out of the 2 i.e 3-5 in CB and 6-PW in MB would be a good idea?

Will be getting properly fitted anyhow.

Yeah ben reckons the AP2 is a bit of me.

Undecided on the rifle shaft myself, it is a 5.5 in the demo club which I reckon is a bit soft for you and I.

Peter the Cobra rep is going to get the MB in a 6.0 for me to try.

Personally i didnt think it was the flex but more the kick point! dgs300 shafts seem to be spot on for me so i stick to what i knows best!

Don't take this the wrong way Jon, but I think these will be less forgiving than your present 755s. It will be harder to strike the ball correctly consistently with them.

Whilst they look very nice and you can hit them well in a test session, are they really the way to go forward when you are looking at really getting the handicap down next season ?

I don't think they would be a good move for you at this stage in your golf development.

MWJ, DCB has a good point, why change?

My winter league partner (who plays off 6) has a set of the 755's and really rates them. Nothing wrong with the clubs.

As a 27 handicap golfer are you not better off spending your well earned cash on lessons in an attempt to get your handicap down to sub 20? Set yourself a challenge that if you manage to get your handicap below 20, then you'll treat yourself to a new set of irons, not before.

Sounds to me at the moment as if you either have money to burn, or you just fancy a change for changes sake.

But can you find a Cobra bag that's as sexy as your Titleist? :D :D :D

I already have a gorgeous cobra bag!

As for the lessons, I do regularly have lessons with my pro and tho I am still officially 27 h/cap Im not coming even close to playing to it. If I was able to do the comps I would have been slashed.

My last 4 rounds scored as medal at my club were 82, 84, 82, 85 which would see me playing off 14 according to the handicap secretary so the progress is there, just not getting in enough comps. Playing medal in 2 weeks time though so will go from there.

It was my teaching pro who said that he thinks I am well equipped to play a "better player" iron as I hit his for fun.

i.m.h.o. if these are your scores (and like me, it's not getting the attention of the h'cap sec) then clearly you are mid-h'cap player. If so, play with whatever you feel like. Personally, going less forgiving than the Titleists seems a bit risky.

I had a set of Cavity-backed Mizunos from America (Domino) and had a good run playing under 10 for weeks on end. I saw a set of TP 11 Blades in the pro shop and bought them there and then. They looked the business and were great out of the middle, but they cost me consistency in distance BIG TIME. They lasted under six months and then I went back to Tommy Armour 845s which are/were a mid forgive-ness iron. Immediately went back from shooting mid 80s to just under 10 again......

Just got off the phone to the Cobra rep.

He is going to arrange to get me demos of the CB and MB in S300's and Project-X 6.0 to see what I fancy.

Although they dont officially do a combo set of these he has the clout to make it happen for me if thats what is required so will have to have a play and go from there.

I wanted titleists but everyone I have spoken to pro-wise have said that It would be a waste of the extra money as the cobras are every bit as good but significantly cheaper.

It's an interesting one. I think Titleist gear is very, very good, but have never had the cash to go there!

My pro wanted me to get a set of AP2s, but in the end I just bought a set of bargain Macgregors. I tried all sorts for a few weeks (including some Cleveland Gold, which I txtd Homer about at the time). t.b.h there was so little difference it was a no-brainer to go with the £149 set as opposed to £499 sets from TM/Cleveland/Mizuno/Callaway etc.

Jon you would think you were a pro the way you're talking - learn to play with the sticks you have (which are more than adequate) get your handicap down to 12 (which it should probably be if you can engage the grey matter and putt half decent) then in 6/9 months time look at the new models out there and then get set about getting 'good'......

Cheers for that Sam, it is good advice and you are a bloody decent golfer so I take on board what you are saying.

I think MVP has hit it on the head though, I just fancy something nice new and shiny.

If I do go dwon the new irons route are there any models that you would recommend having seen me hit the ball?

Cheers.

Spot-on about the putting btw Sam, I have had a couple of putting lessons since we played and have putted well hence the scores of 82 84 82 85 which were very decent scores for me.

The pro who taught me just got me to take a little bit more time and use a shoulder-rocking stroke as opposed to a wristy one which I was adopting.
