Cobra advert blocking access

It amazes me how many times the IT lot at GM stick an advert on and appear to do absolutely no testing of it whatsoever before going live. I can only assume they've got work experience in as anyone with even the most basic knowledge of websites etc wouldn't have this happen.

It is however it shouldn't have to. If there was any competence with those who make these ads live they shouldn't interfere with the usage of the forum.

That’s the issue with marketing and Ads - if they were away somewhere where it’s easily ignored they fail but there always needs to be some middle ground - display it once , click that you have seen it and then it’s done

Hey folks,

Looking into this to see if we can get the ad stopped, however a few things to remember to share that can help when reporting ads:

  • Screenshot of the ad
  • URL of the ad
  • Your Location
  • Browser
  • OS - Android, iOS, Windows, Mac, etc.
Ads are not the same across the board for everyone. eg: Folks in US, Canada are not going to see the same ads as folks in the UK, etc. In the same vein, ads on mobile devices are not always going to be the same as Desktop. So the more details you can share about the intrusive ads the better.

Same view as above on both a Samsung Tablet and a Google Pixel phone, both android I believe.

Front page of the forum, UK

Chrome Browser and Samsung Browser

My feelings on adverts not being tested for platform compatibility and the use of Ad Blockers are well documented but at least try and make sure that the links in your intrusive advert actually go somewhere.

I've been forced to click on the ad several times this morning and each time it's a 404 - page not found error. Amateur doesn't even cover it. Almost in to the realms of anti-advertising.

UK, Safari, Mac.

I can’t understand why you still have the ads running and it clearly hasn’t been tested.

To add to this somewhat embarrassing situation, as Grieg has pointed out, when you do click it (which is unavoidable) you go to a page which states ‘404 Page not found’.

I would have like Greig’s comment on Safari but it was impossible as I kept going to Cobra’s website and getting a broken webpage.

Still affecting my iPad, using Safari and also my Android phone which has the latest Android update. Both give the same look as previous and I can see no way to cancel it off once it’s there.
If they think it makes me want to buy their stuff, it doesn’t at all.

Since the link is unavoidable in clicking, can you give me the link? I understand a rogue ad is frustrating, but given I'm in the not in the UK, as noted earlier I'm not going to see that ad and even with VPN I still cannot get it to appear. Having the link to the ad allows me to request it be removed faster.

Update: Ad should be gone now, thanks to everyone who reported it!
