Hi all, been hanging around the forum for a while but haven't posted. 32 years old, been playing golf seriously since the summer looking to improve and get a decent handicap.

I move to Gloucester in a couple of weeks and I'm hoping to join a club when I get there.

Can anyone recommend me a club? I'm after a good course, but more importantly I want to join a welcoming active club.

I look forward to your responses!

Ok, cool. I live in the next village (Brockworth) although moving up past Bristol soon.

Brickhampton (9 holes course, 18 hole course and decent driving range) is in Churchdown and I believe from others, it has a pretty active social schedule. I actually quite like the course but you are looking at very long rounds as it seems to be where everyone goes for pay and play for a better course (other pay and play are Rodway Hill (Highnam) and The Orchard (Huntley)). Brickhampton also gets very wet.

I am a member at Cotswold Hills in Cheltenham (5 mins from Brockworth) but there is a 2 year waiting list for 7 day membership and I think there is a waiting list for 5 day. The course however is dry all year round.

I have also recently joined Cirencester which is 15 mins up the A417 as I have a fair few friends up there. 3 of those friends live in Churchdown. Again, this course is pretty much dry all year round. I played there today and came off with clean shoes and very minimal mud at the bottom of my trousers. Dont know much about the social side of Cirencester but, it is a very friendly and welcoming club.

Happy to take you for a round on either/both when you move down.

Hope that helps.

Welcome along. I can't help your search but you'll find plenty of members on here that are happy to offer games

Thanks for the info. All the clubs you have mentioned are clubs i have been looking at on the internet, I have also looked at Gloucester golf club but its currently closed because of the weather. Not sure i'm keen on joining a club that can't stay open all year round. And if Brickhampton has a lot of non members then they may put me off, will have to see what it is like.

Thanks for the offer of a round, as long as you don't mind playing with a high handicapper i might take you up on it.

No worries. I'll play with anyone!

Gloucester has never been in decent condition when I have played there. It also has a hole called cardiac hill....not fun!

Painswick is a short quirky course with great views. Good fun to play, not sure how fun it would be to be a member of.

A few others a bit further away are nice - depends on how far you would want to go. Are you going to be working local too?
