A quick question for anyone who has an opinion. I am going down to Dorset in a few weeks and am after some course recommendations. Any thoughts welcome. I am a high handicapper and don't mind a challenge as long as I have a fighting chance ;-)

Thanks

If you're after a 'budget' option the local muni was of the best around the country. Meyrick Park, just behind the town hall in Bournemouth. There is another muni close by called Queens Park. But again I haven't played there for almost 20 years.

Purbeck has some amazing views over Poole Harbour.

Played Knighton Heath in July. Nice course and very friendly staff indeed. Good value-for-money as well !!

RushMore is a very nice course to play, near Shaftesbur, so just in Dorset, but a friendly place and some great views from the course.

You do have to book a tee time but never had any problems in doing that myself.

To answer the question"where am I going?" It is near Lulworth Cove - not sure if that's East or West and as the last time I went, I was about 10, my sense of direction had not developed enough!! Thanks for all the tips, much appreciated.

Aaah - if you are over that way then my two recommendations would be for Came Down near Dorchester. Fantatsic views, great greens, good challenge and the best welcome and food in the area. Bridport is a little further away, but is also great views of the Jurassic Coast, good golf and a great chance of a 10 second hang time on the par 3 6th.

Some great other recommendations by the other guys too.

but you need to be wind-prone to play Bridport

Agree with Hapless on this one have played these 3 courses in the last 2 years when I have ventured down to Bournemouth for Stagweekends etc. Isle of Purbeck, Meyrick Park then Queens Park last would be my order of play. Watch out for the dog walkers at Queens Park! Love the 1st at Meyrick Park, Par'd it 1st time there. Long Par 3 over valley(dip). Took driver, hit the green, 10ft for Par, nailed it! :)
