i played in the quarters last night after work and it was all going so well....until the 13th.

up until that point i was playing really well and steady, not making any mistakes and being very consistent.i was 2up standing on the 9th tee and decided to spray my drive miles right, this was my first mistake.i managed to score a bogey with my provisional ball but that wasn't enough and i lost the hole to go back to 1 up at he turn.

i won the 12th to get back to 2 up but then started to play crazy golf.i lost the next 3 holes in a row to go 1 dwn and then halved the 16th and 17th to be 1 dwn with 1 to play.i was seriously peeved off,i couldn't hit a shot to save myself.i went from striking it brilliantly to hitting it like a complete novice, some crazy shots:(

going down 18 which is a par 5 my opponent was roughly 10 yrds short of the green in 2 and i was in the tree's,lying in thick rough.we couldn't find my ball for a while and i must admit i was close to shaking hands when he found my ball:D i somehow managed to get it on the green and make par whilst my opponent started playing like me:eek:.....i won the 18th and we headed up the first.

once again i was in the tree's and he was up the middle,he knocked his shot through the back and i managed to get it to the front of the green.i was scrambling like mad now and was doing alright.we both made pars.

then on the 2nd extra hole i managed to get up and down when he couldn't and won the match...i was so relieved, phew:)

now in the semi's and i'm feeling confident, not overly confident but what i can't afford to do is what i did from the 13th onwards.fair enough the shots i played on the 18th and 19th were dug deep for but i should of never been in that position.i didn't feel like there was pressure on me or anything like that.its something i'm bad for, making a complete mess of the last few holes or playing badly on the home stretch.i reckon i was +4 standing on the 13th tee and for the next 3 holes i was +5....:mmm:

in the end up i was +9 for 20 holes with 2 double bogeys and a lost ball.

Well played Wull. Maybe you just got a bit complacent and stopped the tight pre shot routine or "think-box" strategy that had been working and then suddenly it goes a bit awry and confidence drops and you start to question what's wrong with your game when in fact it's just you stopped focussing so effectively?

The fact remains that you pulled it back when you had to so again that smacks of a lack of focus letting you down rather than your game?

Good luck in the semi finals.

Nice one Wull, it's not everyone that can dig deep and make shots to scramble a score when you feel like you can't hit the ball properly.

I had a similar situation recently and take heart from the fact that it can't get much worse but I still won.

Good luck in the semi's.

i had a chocolate bar on the 10th hole then another one on the 15th....i was in a cream puff at this point and was needing a fix:rofl:

Try a banana or two. Not such a "hit" of sugar.

Matchplay is bizarre.
You win or tie holes that are nearly out of reach, and lose holes that you had in the bag!

Good stuff lad,

I stumbled upon a club championship the other night when I went to play nine. There was a decent buzz about the place.

Can't wait to get to the point where I get to be competitive.

I tend to have a banana on each nine. I've started drinking the Icoco coconit water Jason Dransfield put me onto here. My mire refreshing than water and less of a sugar hit than a lucozade sport

i think i'll start taking bananas with me,much cheaper aswell which is always a bonus.

the semi-final will be interesting as i'm playign against a guy i'm friendly with and have a lot of banter with.we regulary wind each other up and play mind games.....so this is ideal and i reckon we will both play well and concentrate like mad.he doesn't hit the ball that great but manages to get up and down pretty much all of the time.its annoying to say the least,so i need to not let that get to me and concentrate on what i'm doing and i'll be ok.

Doubly important not to think a hole is over before it is. It's a killer halving a hole you thought you'd already won so I try not to think like that any more.
