Club Championships

Sounds like a golf club for people who don’t have jobs or children.
Lol.. The quarters and semi matchplays are prebooked tee times around 1700. But yeah it ain't for everyone... Finals at the weekend... I'd imagine the folk who are serious about it either get away sharp or take a holiday.

I think Club Chanpionship SHOULD be 36 holes in one day - golf is a test of technical, physical and emotional and mental skill/ability

36 holes in a day tests the physical and mental faculties of players
I assume you'd ban people who use buggies as well. Having a medical exception means they don't tick the physical ability box that you require.

Nairns was 36 holes of stroke play over two days ( Sat &Sunday) then the best scratch split from the best handicap. though the strokeplay is off the white , the scratch moves to the black and handicap remain on white down to the best 2 scratch and handicap for the final on Friday

We have a 36 hole comp over a weekend for a nett and a gross prize
The 16 lowest gross scores qualify for the knock out stage
the final is 36 hole matchplay (gross)
Winner is club champ and deserves to be

Ours is today and tomorrow. It was meant to be a few weeks ago but was postponed due the course flooding during round 1. 18 holes today and 18 tomorrow. You can choose am or pm for day one and both go out in handicap order. I’m out pm. On Sunday the leaders go out last. There is a 36 hole scratch (club champ) and a 36 hole handicap championship. Round 1 is also the senior scratch competition. There are only half a dozen of us that could win this, so the main senior club championship is an 18 hole handicap medal played midweek. This is from the back tees whereas all other senior competitions are played from the regular tees. I don’t play in this as it is held midweek. Also I don’t stand a chance of winning it. For example, this year I would have needed to shoot a 4 under gross and it’s not happening.

We just had what was termed "The Senior Club Championship". OK, winner of the main trophy on net score - good luck to them from a field of around 70 players. I shot lowest gross. Senior captain and organiser's view was "we don't care about the scratch".
As far as I am concerned, I'm Senior Scratch Champion for 2025.

As far as I am concerned you are the Senior Club Champion, no need to add the ‘scratch’. The Senior Captain and the organiser need to have a word with themselves.

We only introduced a Senior Club Champinship a few years ago, played at a weekend. A lot of players who have never played in a Senior competition of any kind before played in the event, many very low handicappers. Now a very popular event.

Tend to agree, not sure you can call it a championship if the winning score is net.

Well played champ.

Why not just have a SCC and a net it would be a very nice accolade

I would be embarrassed to say I was the Champion on a nett score, won a monthly stoke event years ago with a two under score, my playing partner shot 4 under, at presentations I made sure that everyone know who shot the best score of the day.

It is indeed, though I have to say I agree with the others that a handicap competition is a rather strange way of deciding someone with the title club champion or senior/junior/ womens / etc.
Yes just like divisions in big fields ,it dosnt take much to have a scratch winner and a net winner.🏆

Our Senior Champs is 18 hole Medal.
If it was a Scatch comp like the main Club Champs there would about 3 people in with a chance of winning it.
99: of the over 50s simply wouldn't bother.

As above you can run a handicap competition alongside it, but I don't see the point of having a handicap champion. Its possible just me but it seems a bit odd that you can't have a competition where the best score that day wins

A lot of clubs in this area the main “championship is the Mens Club ( which includes all juniors and seniors ) and Ladies Club Championships ( juniors and seniors etc )”

They then also have their own day where the seniors is mainly nett

The Seniors section recently added a Gross to the seniors but most of the best seniors play at the weekend

Then call it something else, giving the title of club champion to someone who just happens to have played his best on a random days seems wrong to me.
