Club Championships - what's the score nowadays?

Homer's chapionship sounds the fairest thing with a combination of gross and net scores. At our club the junior competitions are used as qualifying for the club championship which is over 2 days. There are gross and nett winners and also a finish to the order of merit that has been running through out the season.

This sounds fair enough to me as everyone gets to give a display of their best golf.

You are right thats what they do but many get annoyed because a) they have to acrifice a ball trying to get over, b) chip off the tee to lay up short and risk and unpredicatble lie and maybe still not get over.

Most can get over from the drop zone to be fair as its only about 100 yards. They don't mind the first to be fair as they nobble one down into the light rough in front of the yellows and knock on or close in two.

We actually cut the field almost in half from 80 down to 42 and then seeded the second round so the lowest scores went out last. Its the first year we have had it over two days with a cut as the fields were getting smaller year on year as the older members felt 36 holes was beyond them. At least this year it was a bigger field as more fitting to the most prestigious event in the year.

Our club champs are decided over 36 holes, over both our courses. Cathagena in the morning and J O`Gaunt in the afternoon. You have to be 9 or lower to enter. The winner is the person who has the best gross over the 36 holes.
There is also a Handicap Trophy. The afternoon round of the 36 hole scratch comp counts towards this.
If you are 12 and under you can also enter the Handicap trophy, teeing off before the scratch comp boys go out in the afternoon.
The junior club champs is held over the afternoon 18 aswell.
Our club champs has been won in the past by Mark Wharton(+2) and John Kemp(+3), which is how it should be. How can a 19 h`caper be a club champ????????

I have never known a 19 handicapper win a club championship. I've known them win the handicap competition that runs concurrent with the the club championship itself but the main prize has never been won by anyone higher than 5 in all my years at this and other clubs. Are you not gettinf the two mixed up. Most club championships are decided on gross scores so a 19 handicapper will have to play two rounds out of his skin or be an out and out cheat to win
