I understood it was possible to close a hole when it was being maintained or subject to adverse conditions.

I looked at the WHS Rules of Handicapping but can't find reference to how you do this. Does anyone know please?

Either run a comp as just 17 holes (this option should be available within your ISV software) or instruct players if putting a GP card in to put NS (not started) on the relevant hole. Then for handicapping purposes the 17 hole score will be upscaled to an 18 hole Adjusted Gross.

If the ISV software is IG how do you do that please?

Sorry, I know IG has that functionality as well have regularly run 14 hole comps that work as I described, but I do not set up the comps. I’m sure some on here will advise on set up parameters.

On IG Settings Tab for the Competition, click the Alter the course Holes and select the holes out of play and save

We had a hole out of action earlier this summer, due to extensive drainage work, we just set the competition up with that hole out of play, it was perfectly fine for handicaps
